Just can't believe it...

Here is the other side of the equation: 200170843173

No dents, nothing Youxin couldn't fix, serial > 1 Mio.

Almost bought it if I didn't have already two.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT ANYONE ELSE BUT I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME READING THE AUCTION. Maybe it had to do with all caps.

You guys need to study the Leica history. The serial number configuration is Canadian.....

Reference please. AFAIK it's Wetzlar:

10/10/1963 M3 from: 1088001 to: 1091000

Beg to differ, big M3 little numbers is a feature to signify a Canadian build.

Thud, first of all good to see you back. I really want to know about
the size of the M3, made in canada vs germany and all. I have two M3s, they
both have a large M3 and IMO are both made in Germany. Here
are pics:

No ?

I'll gladly read up on it if you can provide me with a link/ref. Thanks.

I will have to wait till I get home to post a picture of a Canadian camera. I am on a job site and may be away till after Thanksgiving. One must be aware that the serial number list is not died in the wool accurate.

The "large" M3 on your cameras is the standard sizes for the early Ms, the Canadian 'M3' is roughly 2x the size of the serial number font.

Do you have a picture for us ? Thanks.

I just had a look at James Lagers book and the M3 shows equal amounts above and below the serial number and I believe the on the German ones the bottom of the M3 starts at the same level as the serial number. I don't think I should post a photo from his book, so that is the best I can describe it. I hope I am right.

Thanks a lot, Bob, great explanation. This does indeed make mine German
and the one on Ebay Canadian.

Hans, Randy, this should answer your questions, too ...

Roland.

No. But I just ordered one. Pretty hard to get, actually. Do I really need
Vol III or are Vol I and II good enough if I don't use Visoflex :)

Canadian M3, ok. But KEH has a Canadian M3 with a large "M3" for less than 1200 US, in EX condition (and we know what that is on KEH's scale).
So why went the one on Ebay for over 5000 US$???????????

Maybe the buyer didn't check KEH first. Due diligence is the buyers responsibility and so is sensible bidding. In other words there is no reason especially with that auction site.

Bob

Auction over, someone paid over five grand for this camera.

To think mine costed barely $500.

Granted, it's not pristine, but it does take photos! :)
