M7 + 35 v4

Strange bedfellows, but I'm beginning to like this combination a lot.

1. It's so small! I can put it in my coat pocket without a bulge!

2. For daylight work, I can shoot people or other subjects close up and have a nice bokeh in the background.

3. M7 AE is a huge life-saver. The lens is so small, it's easy to knock off the aperture ring when focusing, AE helps me get the correct exposure when that happens.

I found a similar thing with the Konica UC Hexanon 35/2 on my M7. No messing with the aperture ring (Konica makes those things right 😉) but the whole kit is really small.

With the hood attached?
I just used a M6 with this lens and the hood today. It did fit in my pocket too. But my pocket is very large.
Anyway...this combination is just awful great to handle. I have small fingers, so I have no problems with the aperture ring.
This would be my first choice m-lens at the moment.

The pre-ASPH 35's are delightfully compact, but even better is the Elmar 50 (collapsed, of course).

This has been pointed out before, the 35 is smaller, one stop faster and doesn't need to be extended to shoot!

When focussed at infinity with hood and cap removed, the Summicron-M 35 v4 projects 27mm from the front of the M body. Similarly for the classic Elmar 50/2.8, but also collapsed, the projection is 22mm. I noticed this small difference when carrying those two configurations in the interior sections of my Domke F6. The collapsed Elmar does not bulge into the adjoining section.

In any case, I don't mean to detract from your enjoyment of the v4: it's a fabulous lens that lends a true RF experience. 🙂 🙂
