You could get an accessory shoe extender to mount between the MR meter and the camera. That might give enough clearance so that the meter doesn't get in the way of any of the controls.
I played with this idea for my IIIG, but I think it is more trouble than it is worth. It works, but it makes the shutter speed dial difficult to see. I only attempted this because I already owned an extender and an MR and just wanted to see if it would work.
I have also used the MR4 as a handheld, but I much prefer using a real handheld meter.
