Hi, all.

When selling stuff on RFF and elsewhere, I've always shrugged off International shipping of photo goods in the past. I guess the reason was difficulty with pre-pricing the service, since I didn't understand it very well.

I wonder if some of you folks could offer some anecdotal comments on how much one should expect to pay for shipping, specifically USA to Europe/UK. I suppose I simply don't have a good feel for this process.

My understanding is that "easy" options like Priority Mail and Express Mail International, available via the USPS, run somewhere around USD $20-28 for packages under 2 pounds. There's a flat-rate option, but that runs in the $30-$40 range. Am I on the right track?

Does anyone know of any other options that are less expensive but still reliable? Thanks in advance for your help and experience.

I have found that it costs about $50-$55 to ship a couple of pounds of gear to/from Europe with tracking and insurance included on top of the basic rate. That doesn't count my time filling out custom's documents and waiting in line at the P.O. This price is pretty competitive with FedEx, wiich I can prep entirely on line and then leave the package in the local drop box.

I use the Flat Rate USPS box..It is $38.00 for any weight...The squarish box can hold a 35mm SLR Camera and lens. Insurance is extra.

Yeah, that flat-rate stuff is very attractive. I think I might try working out a "no insurance, low-cost" vs. a "complete coverage" option that I can show as options on a sale.

Just trying to include my European brethren is some gear sales and such. Thanks for your help so far!
