Hi,

well I had the great idea of going out this morning very early, the weather was terrible but I thought "What the hell". The result so far is a front element with fog which seems reluctant to go away.
It's nearly impossible to see trough the lens so I doubt any image can form behind this....

Any ideas on how I can have this thing to dry up? I read on some forums that silica gel can help, some guys also mentioned to heat the lens up with a hairdryer and stick it in a ziplock bag, lastly other people dried their lenses in the oven (I won't try that).

Thanks.

The fog is on the inside of the lens?

I had that happen on a beautiful Kodak Retina lens bought on Ebay. The lens developed fog as it was shipped via air mail. I had to take the front element off to clean it out. It would not go away on its own.

You might try putting it over an air conditioning vent, ie cool dry air. That would not work for my lens.

hmmm, I just blew some cool air with my hair dryer.... seems as if the fog has moved from the font element to the second element =(

Is it easy to open a lens?

If the moisture can get it, you should be able to get it out in a warm enough place, I would think. 40-50C? Hi Brian!

Just back in- Glad it cleared up. If the air can get in and move it around, it was able to move it out. You might want to retreat it the same way after a few hours and keep an eye on it. Some lenses are very easy to remove the elements; but an optical spanner is usually necessary, and in the case of many Leica's- Suction Cups.
