Sorry if I shouldn't be posting this here, but it is fairly time sensitive. I'm going to England for Christmas in a couple of weeks, and I've been toying with the idea of picking up an M2 to take along with my 40D. I actually used to own an M2, but I ended up having to sell it, and I have missed it ever since. My R-D1 will be in Japan over Christmas, so I am rangefinderless!

Does anyone have a reasonable condition M2 with a somewhat recent CLA available for sale? Please contact me by PM, thanks :)

Update: I'd also love to hear from anyone with an M4 or M6 available for sale. Depending on the price, I may be able to stretch the budget a bit.

Bob, there is one on ebay Australia now with a current bid of $316aud.Trouble is it has 9days to go, hope this helps. All the best for christmas , Alan.

Well, I have one with a very recent shutter repair / CLA. Just painted it black, along with the GMP grip.
It's in great user condition. Still not sure if I want to sell it though...
I will copy this as a PM.

Just curious - with all of the M bodies available, why insist on an M2?

Of all the M bodies, the M2 is my favourite. I just love the combination of the old Leica aesthetics with the 35-50-90 framelines. It's also available for a lot less than most of the other models. I am quite partial to the M3, but it has no 35mm framelines.

What price? That is important;) I dont have one, but its not hard finding a nice one if money is no problem.:)

It depends on the condition. I was hoping for something $750 or less, though.

KEH has 7 for sale right now.

Yep, I have been eying them. I could end up going that route, but I would prefer to buy from someone on a community like RFF who can tell me when the camera was last CLAd, provide photos, and that sort of thing. Keh still won't provide photos of the actual item, will they? That wouldn't be a problem if I lived in the US, but I have to pay tax to import anything, so buying something sight unseen for inspection is a little iffy.

As I said, just curious.

Curious to know why you're curious.

Inquiring minds want to know

I understand the longing for an M2. Mine's survived the low tides of Fortune.

Well, becuase if one urgently needs a Leica, I'd think one would be flexible about which kind, since to my mind, many of them are quite alike, except perhaps for the M5. Since he didn't seem willing to compromise on which body, I just wanted to know why. Are curious minds satisfied now? ;)

hey bob, simons here in montreal has a beauty m2 i have been eyeing for a while. i believe it's $700 cnd.
let me know if you're interested and i'll go fetch some photo's for ya!
cheers
john

I'd like that, emra. Buying from out of province in Canada is often the best option for photo gear (no PST!), but I've never seen anywhere here that stocks a reasonable selection of used Leica gear.

Hey John are you sure about that price because on their website the only M2 they are listing is $995. But then they also list a Canon 1DS at $1495 so I guess there might be a few errors :-D

well bob i own a house in london and lived there for about 4 years (i own a buisiness in montreal now and spend most of my time there) and ALL of my leica, hell camera purchases were through the mail! the customs thing is a bit of a pickle!
camtec here in old montreal has plenty of goodies to drool over... and simons has a pretty nice collection of things too. an m3, an m2, an m4 and plenty of glass! they also have a brand new g1 in the box!
the m2 is really nice. i was considering it for a few months myself but recently caved and have a shiny new m8. i'll try and get there in the next day and snap a pic or two for you. they may even take care of it for me... i'll pm you the details.
i'm sure it's easily shipped but i come through you're neck of the woods on the 20th if you want it dropped off!

Well, I've had a few replies, some of which are looking promising. I should clarify that I'm not looking for an absolute beater, but a good user would be great if it's had a recent CLA. Decementing in the finder was a bit of a worry with my last M2, so I would preferably like to avoid signs of that.

They're not really quite alike. Especially the M2 and M3.
