Leica LTM Leica 111G or 111F?

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
I bought the IIIg because I thought I would still want one if I bought a IIIf. I'll never know if the IIIf would have satisfied me, but I know I'm very happy with my choice and don't find myself wanting an f.

With the CV 28/35 mini finder, it has great framelines for every focal length I shoot. All still smaller than an M even with the finder. I find it really easy to focus with the magnified rangefinder and really easy to frame with the bright, clear, built in frames.

I got a nice user for a reasonable price and its getting a lot more use - more brass than when I bought it. But I wouldn't want it just sitting on the shelf.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of any screw mount Leica. They aren't even that hard to load once you are used to it. I just don't fly with mine because I can't carry on my Swiss Army Knife for cutting film leaders...

The post-war IIIc are said to have a lesser quality chrome and indeed many show pitting and partial chrome loss, as if the chrome was painted on. I can see it on my 1949 IIIc. Although the IIIc is pretty nice, with not much chrome loss, it's no comparison with the IIIf. Also, my IIIf's shutter is a lot smoother than my IIIc's, but that may be due to a CLA.

David,

The CV 50mm viewfinder may be "way cheaper" than the Leica SBOOI finder if it's used. But new the CV costs (at CameraQuest) $128 -- which is about what I just paid on eBay for a good quality SBOOI. I've seen them going for less, but not much less.

I bought a SBOOI from KEH for $130ish. It it like new and came with a case. I have seen SBOOI's go for less on the Bay.

If you want an inexpensive, late ltm, don't forget IIf r/d. (IIf b/d is harder to find)

Easily found, often in excellent condition and how often do you use slow speeds anyway?

Michael

The trouble with reading past threads is that they bring on GAS attacks, a IIIG is now on its way to me

Nice old thread, thanks.

IIIg then if it's the last screw mount Leica.
not IIIG ;)
exists also IIIa (Model G)

The trouble with screw mount Leica that no model type is marked on the camera :p.
