ERA 100 - the second roll

Xmm, all that rant about ERA 100 film made me curious about it. How does it fare against a main stream ISO 100 B&W films such as Plus-X, FP4, Neopan 100,
Acros 100 ?
The pictures in this thread all look good though.
Has someone had the chances to compare between these films (comparative to ERA 100) (in same developer of course) ? Grain ? Tonality ? Exp./dev tolerances ?
I'd mostly interested in HC-110, though other common developers are fine as well for the comparison...
 
I notice the development time for D76 (8 minutes) undiluted is the same as for TriX. As 10 minutes is the recommended time on my chart for developing TriX with D76 at 1:1 dilution, I wonder if it would be the same time for ERA 100?

Obviously I'm a cheapie, wanting my gallon of D76 stock solution to last twice as long...

Bosk: Quite a nice church photo - doesn't make me want to go to church, particularly, but does make me want to get some of that ERA 100!

I'm yet to try ERA 100 in D76 1+1 but will probably give 10 minutes a try when I do.


Incidentally my 50 rolls of ERA 100 showed up in the post today, no problems detected and shipping is always very quick from Issac. If you're thinking about buying some I can definately recommend it, especially for the price.
 
Well, the wife brought me back a nice stash of ERA 100 and I just shot the first two rolls yesterday. Developed the first in DiXactol lux and although sharp as all get-out the edge effects are such that enlargements wil be an issue---will have to test out a bit more, but man is it sharp with this developer:

Seeing those very nice results from ChrisN with DD-X and having picked up a bottle a few weeks ago on a whim (since I never tried it) I decided to use that for the second roll rather than D-76 which I had planned to use. VERY nice. Though I have to say that ChrisN's reported 12 minutes just seemed like it would be too long so I opted for 9 minutes and got some very nice negs. Although the grain is very smooth I would prefer a bit more edge sharpness and may try the DD-X at higher dilutions, and also will test against what I can see with D-76 1-1 later. And I plan to try Rodinal too though the samples I see from others on the web using Rodinal with ERA 100 show it to be more contrasty than I'd like.

Anyway, here's a sample shot developed in the DD-X 1:4 for 9 minutes at 20C:

Hi Jan,

I just developed a roll of GP3 shot with my Hasselblad this last weekend. Hung to dry last night, I'll be scanning tonight. Would love to see your results too.

Ted, my wife just brought me some from China. Only 20 rolls of GP3 in 120 but a real load (260 rolls!) of ERA in 35mm. I might be inclined to trade a few rolls of ERA for a few rolls of something else just for the sake of sharing. PM or email me if you're interested...
 
Ted, I got my 135 Era about a year ago from Bill Mattocks.. remember him? The Shanghai 120 was from Doug Reilly as part of a deal.

I'd try Ebay for regular vendors. I hear they are selling both films there and I've seen the Shanghai for about $1 - $2 a roll

edit... I see Rich now has the North American distribution rights ;D ... I suggest you talk to him

Calling Jan and Rich - how did those scans turn out? I'm keen to see the GP3 scans. Here's one of mine, in DD-X 1+4 for 10 minutes @ 20 degrees C.

Not bad, not bad. Good stuff. Curls some though nothing too difficult to handle.

The macro shot below developed in DiXactol Lux. The one of my son in D-76 stock.

An old thread resurrected! Timely, too, as I developed some ERA 100 yesterday, in 4x5 format. Dev'd in ID-11 1+3 for 15 minutes at 20c. This scanned OK but looking at the neg I could probably cut the development time to 12 or 13 minutes. Focus is a little soft in this image - this was hand-held at 1/15 and f/22 - probably a little ambitious! Next time I'll take the tripod!
