Olympus OM1

So I just recieved a OM1 I bought online. I advanced the lever and pressed once and advanced again but now it won't fire. Anyone know how to fix this?! There's no battery in right now, but the battery is only for the light meter, right?

I have the OM10 and it won't fire without batteries.

Hi, If it's an OM1, you are correct thet the battery doesn't affect anything except the meter. Has the frame advanced fully ? just (gently) try the winder again to make sure. Does the shutter button move or does it feel "locked" ?

on the OM 1 there is a very fine slotted screw at the bottom of the cable release threaded hole on the shutter release button that loosens up and jams the shutter release button.
turn this screw down with a very fine jeweller's screwdriver.
this might be solve your problem as I had the same thing happen to several of my OM 1s throughout the years and I solve it by the method I outlined.

question: i heard of some lenses ('til now particullary to 50mm f/1.4 and 135mm f/3.5) that
has "silver nose" and that "feature" is refereed as RARE.

what's the difference between lenses with silver nose and the ones without?

my 50mm has a silver nose but sincerly i am not excited of that strange nose..
i have to be?

Congrats, Matteo, great kit.

Silver nose lenses are older, and typically single coated which causes a slightly
different signature than more modern multi-coated lenses. Better for B+W
some say. I have both kinds for different focal length and don't think
it makes much difference.

If you like OMs, stay away from Leicas ... It's a slippery slope. 🙂

They are great little rigs. I picked up a black OM1n in user condition along with a 50 F1.8 and a 75 - 150 F4 for $50.

There are some real bargains out there right now.

Mattia: That's too bad ... I've never had that happen on an OM, and I didn't know of the fix that xaaraa mentioned ... I'll have to look at my OM-1 to see.

Matteo: That is a CLASSIC kit, I think you will love it. The silver nose lenses also do really well with Kodachrome and other slide films that are a bit on the contrasty/saturated side. But eventually you will have to add the later versions of the lenses to your kit, too, you know. It seems to be required to be a part of this forum not not just have a specific lens, but to have it in various production samples.

The OM slope is much like RF, very slippery, but wonderful all the way down and then up. IMHO, it is the most FUN SLR there is out there. Some great lenses, different yet the same camera bodies, if only Olympus did not give up the OM mount when they came out with 4/3.

BB2: That's a good point. The mounts are very, very close from what I have read. I think they may have deliberately made them different to try and keep people from using "legacy" OM glass on the E-1, fearing complaints of image quality plus reducing the sale of new ZD glass. In point of fact, for months Olympus America denied the existence of the MF-1 adapter even after images of it were posted on reputable sites.

I still have the problem with the stuck shutter button - xayraa33 - I'm not quite sure where you mean this button is supposed to be, can't find any..?

Also the ISO dial is stuck!

look from above at your shutter button.
it has a hole in the centre where you can screw-in your remote cable.
in this hole (you may need the aid of a light) you can see the head of a very little screw.
this screw is Flathead ("Slotted") so you'll need a Flathead ("Slotted") small screwdriver.

if you need further explanations I'll do some shots of the little screw.

for the iso dial I don't know.
a stupid question: you tried to press the little button on lower-right of the iso dial?

😀 sometimes happens to forget some things when others doesn't work.

the button is what you press on with your right hand index finger to take a picture.
