i've just gotten an itch to buy this little gem, but i cannot seem to find it on bhphoto, amazon, or adorama. what site can i get this camera at and what is the average price it is going for (used/new)?

wow the grd and grd2 are going for a whole lot more than i bargained for maybe i'll just wait. 😀 i thought the grd would be down to 300-400 by now but guess that is just wishful thinking.

Jessops in the UK has the GRD for £249 which is $500 ish. Strange, usually we're more expensive than the states over here.

The Popflash price includes the viewfinder and the softcase. As far as Ricoh's are concerned importing to the US from Japan is usually cheaper (ebay).

Used ones go fro about 400. However, I bought mine new from Popflash. This turned out to be a good thing, since I got a warrranty along with the camera. The lense I got flared whenever it was pointed into a light source. I called Tony (at Popflsh), and he told me to send it to C.R.I.S.S. out west. My camera came back better than new.
I think I paid close to 700usd for mine, but I got extra battery and memory cards as well. When I called Popflash about the flare issue the GR-D II had come out, and I think he said the GR-D was just over 400usd now. So, I would check there before buying a used one.
It is a great camera, and I still have not gotten the hang of all that it can do. But for most people it is very easy to use. It is my first and only digital, so I am still on a curve with it.
Does anyone know if the 40mm lense for the GR-D II will work on the GR-D??

It works, but you need to install the latest firmware. I have ordered it from Robert White in the UK for my GRD and can't wait to try it out.

As I've said several times before, I think the GRD shines even at higher ISOs. All the photos on http://2038.cc/archives are GRD, ISO 800 with no noise reduction.

These are great shots Anders. Were they shot in black and white on the camera or were they converted in Photoshop?

terrafirmanada: They are available here (Windows) and here (Mac). The latest firmware also adds several new functions (including more b&w control, flash exposure compensation and info on the display even when the "live view" is off); take a look at the documentation links on the bottom of the page for more on that.

Ernst: I shoot JPEG color and convert in Photoshop using the simple method on this page.
