I've seen some used M7 bodies advertised as "Passport till 2011" "2 years Passport left" and I'm wondering what that means to the second owner.

Does this Passport warranty transfer to the the second owner? I didn't think that in general warranties can be transferred. I hope I'm wrong.

What are the benefits of the Passport and can it be extended?

(Sorry for all the questions, I'm just getting into a body/lens for the first time)

Contact Leica directly as they will be the one to honor any warranty... make a copy of any correspondence.

In the UK you simply send the existing passport document to leica and they send you a new one in your name with the unexpred portion of the original passport warranty

Leica also just discontinued the Passport Warranty on new items. You should ask what that means to used products covered by it when you buy them.

A current Passport warranty in the US can be extended for another two years any time before it expires. furcafe is correct, the US Passport doesn't transfer to the second owner, but if the first owner will act as an intermediary a second owner can get warranty service through the first.
