how does the hex hold up against a pre-asph elmarit or even an asph elmarit?
would be great if anyone has got experience in both and with some examples too....
cheers.....

hex is sharp and fine but you need to use the shade against flare, here the elmarit is better coated I think

I use to own one and it was fine. Never had a flare issue myself. Here's a sample image: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=21669&ppuser=2121. Optically it's a virtual copy of the current 28/2.8 Elmarit-M. Photodo rates as good or better than the Elmarit seen here: http://www.photodo.com/product_867_p4.html and here: http://www.photodo.com/product_915_p4.html.

I believe that the Hexanon was modeled after the Pre Asph Elmarit (v.4), and many users report the same performance. I've never done the comparison myself, but the Hexanon is an incredible lens; I definitely like its performance better than the CV Ultron or Skopar.

Can't speak for Leica 28mm lenses. I can speak for the 28mm M-Hexanon.
I am particular but not obsessive about the imgage quality of all of my varied lenses including Canon, Nikkor, Leica and Konica. The 28mm M-Hexanon meets my standards. Flare? What flare? I've not seen any. The hood is always in place. I haven't priced a Leica 28mm lens. I'm guessing that they are twice as much as the 28mm Konica. On that basis alone, why buy a much older Leica lens?

IIRC, the M-Hexanon is extremely flare resistant. Quality build but there is some barrel distortion (may be noticeable).
The Elmarit ASPH has almost no distortion (0.12%) which is one of the lowest (or lowest) in its class. Lower than Zeiss.

Shaken, so blurred
Well, I like my Hex 28 a lot (its certainly my "go to" 28) but must admit the Ultron beats it at f2 (and the slightly absurd f1.9).lic4 said:...the Hexanon is an incredible lens; I definitely like its performance better than the CV Ultron or Skopar.

The above photo does demonstrate a little bit of falloff in the corners, something Popular Photography found as the only only real "knock" when reviewing this wonderful lens. I'm not sure though if it's any more than other lenses in it's class. I never found it to be an issue because I expect it from all lenses to some degree wide open.

From what I have read, Chasseur d'Image "gave five stars all around to the Konica 28/2.8 and only 4 stars to the new Emarit 28/2.8 though the latter is a far better lens optically and functionally."

I own both the 28 Cron ASPH and the 28 Elmarit ASPH, and would love to own the M-Hexanon 28mm. Only problem for me was the inability to code permanently, otherwise, the Hexanon lens, when I was trying to decide, is pretty good. Distortion is more than the Elmarit and Biogon but this is relative to each other. Build, flare resistance, sharpness, etc are all there.
