Nikon F401s Quartz (N4004sQD) - data & time stamp question

I bought an old Nikon F401sQuartz camera the other day and have now tested it with a 24-80 AF Nikkor. Works fine and I am pleased with the results.

One question: the camera comes with a data back with a quartz clock and there is a possibility for a date and time stamp on the negative. I have inserted a new battery, the clock seems to be working OK from the display but I did not get any imprints on the negative...

Can anyone advice on this ?
Anyone with a manual to the F401s Quartz model ?

The US name for the cameras is, I think, N4004s QD

Hi, Jon...

I still use my 4004s for various things like birthday parties and events where I just want to point and shoot. Works great on manual, too. But mine does not imprint so your best information is probably here:

Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy the camera. Only problem I have had in twenty years of carrying this camera around the world was when I shot my daughter's wedding reception with the 28-105 zoom and flash...duh...the long zoom made a shadow in the flash as it extended out. Should have used the the SB 24 instead of the on-camera flash.

I have been 100% happy with my 4004s.😀 Nowadays it shares time with a half dozen other cameras including the D2H, D300, F3/T, S3 2000 and F5.

BTW, One of the original Nikonian reviewers ( Bo, I think) used a 4004s for a long time as well.

Thanks for input. I have searched the Mir-site but unfortunately the manual there is only for the F401 and not for the F401s quartz which is the model with the date/time stamp function.
Good to hear that you like it.... I have lot's of different Nikon cameras nowadays but as you say - for the simple "point an shoot" with some sophistication is will be a good alternative...
