Mine lasted 7 months. It just started to give the signal that it was running down.

I usually get 50-60 rolls in my R3M and slightly less in the R2A (40-50). The electronic control of the shutter seems to use a bit more power. My Zeiss ZM gives me a consistent 50-55 rolls per set of batteries. The R4M has had at least 150-200 rolls through it in the last 12 month and I have only changed batteries once!

Does camera indicate battery death in advance? or just switch off unexpectedly?
Once my Nikon SLR batteries died in very inappropriate moment... I didn't have spares and lost my upcoming photo session.
Sometimes I wish to have fully mechanical camera and not rely on battery power. But semi-auto mode is sooo comfortable, so I chose R3A over R3M

I just replaced mine for the first time, after using my R2A for 8 months. Not sure how many rolls I've shot but 40-50 sounds about right. It died rather suddenly. I noticed when I was trying to use the AE lock and it wouldn't hold it. I might have been able to get off a shot or two, but not many. Since they're so small, I keep an extra set (need to replenish) in my camera bag at all times.

i have a set of new batteries in every camera bag i own and i carry a camera bag about 99% of the time.
i feel secure knowing i won't run out of power.
jon, capitals are bourgeois, not batteries and as far as thinking about batteries per film or length of time, with my memory if i did think of stuff like that i would quickly forget it.

Quick tip - meter is inoperative if you don't wind on, so try to get out of the habit of shoot-wind - I find that my Bessa cases make slight contact with the shutter button and run the batteries down...
