What do you like about this developer? How would you characterize it? Which films and their speeds benefit greatly from processing in this developer?

I like it for pushing Tri-x to ASA 1600 more than any other developer. I use the 1 to 15 dilution with a film canister of Sodium sulfite. This gives a nice tight grain , and the highlights no not block up.

I like it at 1:15 without sodium sulfite, especially with medium speed films. It has some of the tonality of D76 but with crisper--less mushy--grain. It's convenient and seems to last a long time.

I don't know/remember. I would think it would be a good combination. My last roll of Pan F+ was souped in DD-X 1:4. EI of 32 or 40 looked good; I'd imagine FG-7 would be quite nice if you get your exposure and developing time dialed in.

Brings back memories. Through the late 60's and throughout the 70's almost all my B&W was developed in FG-7, straight without sulfite. The negs still look good and scan well. It's an excellent developer.

I saw a bottle of it about a year ago in a Toronto photo store, but thought I'd go with something I could count on being around for awhile. So I chose the bottle of Rodinal 🙂
