Hi,All!
I currently have a m3 with summaron(goggled). I am contemplating selling the summaron(which gives wonderfull results, specially after cla by Sherry Krauter but I hate the goggles with a vengance) and getting a 40 summicron.
Will it give as plesant a look to my Black and Whites? How is it in color?
Will it give worse distortions then a 50?
What say you?How usable is it with the 50 framelines of the M3? Will it make any other ones pop? Is it a good substitute or should I get a nokton 40/1.4 and thats it?:bang:

I can't offer comparisons to the 50, but I can say that I find my 40 works well on my M3 - I use the entire VF including outside the 50 framelines for composing.

... likes film again.
I had two Summarons (googled) to go with my M3 but the googles made the camera a little to heavy and bulky for my taste. Now I use my Summilux 35mm pre with an external VF on the M3 and everything is fine.

Same here. I use the entire viewfinder for composing with the 40mm M-Rokkor on the M3. It works fine.Ken Ford said:I can't offer comparisons to the 50, but I can say that I find my 40 works well on my M3 - I use the entire VF including outside the 50 framelines for composing.
I haven't noticed any distortion with the Rokkor (which has the same optical formula as the Summicron-C), but actually I haven't looked for it. Neither the 50mm Summicron-M nor the 50mm/2.8 Elmar-M has any noticeable distortion.

Again, I use the 40mm Summicron C with the full VF and it worls well. I've compared the full frame to the 40mm frame on the CL and they're almost identical.
I think the Summicron C renders wonderful black and whites; it's the perfect compromise between an old flarey lens and a modern contrasty lens for me. It's also wonderfully compact on the M3, specially if you use the rubber shade that was designed for it.

He may be referencing that a 40 Cron draws more like a modern lens... which in his opinion seems to be a bad thing.
