Hi guys,
I´m a newbie from Iceland new to the world of rangefinders and there for also here on the forums. I just got a Bessa R2A from ebay, but I cant get it to start up, it show´s no sign of life. The batteries are in (new from a store) , the winder is stuck but I cant hit the shutter buttom, and the meter does not light up. Am I missing something or is it just fubar?

Speak of the Devil
Have you turned the shutter lock to the left to expose the red dot?

You say the winder is stuck? It's possible the linkage has come off. This can happen when you wind the camera while the shutter is open. If this is the case, the fix is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21036453@N08/sets/72157603307420057/ Take a look at the second photo and see if your shutter looks the same.
If this isn't the case, I'd double check the batteries are in the right way round. Unlike some cameras the "tops" of the batteries face downwards in the R2A.

Is the lens cap on?
It shouldn't be.

Are the batteries in the right way round?
It's different from some other cameras.
The book says 'Place the batteries so that both positive + sides are toward the bottom of the battery chamber.'

Hi
Guys thank you for all your hints. I dont trust my self to open up the camera to check if the shutter is stuck. So I took it to photovillage NY(Or my friend in NY did)
So I´ll post the results here when we have it back.

Trying to find my range
Thanks for posting those photos. My R3A has a shutter issue, not like what's described, but I'll take a look at that linkage.
Are there any other R2A/R3A online repair writeups like this? I'd like to keep track of them somewhere.
Thanks.
