Nude Beach Photography with M3: warning

Yes, I fell for it too - Hey! I'm 54 this year and not dead yet.

Peter

aw, thank you for saying that! My dad says that. Mind you he's from Barbados so it'd sound different. But eh, what a good moment.

Hahahah, I came here to see if you actually went to a nude beach and took pictures.. because I'm pretty sure it's not legal, or not taken well by other beachers, such that you might get beaten up (as long as you're the only one with a camera, there'll be no photographic proof, "ha ha"). I was at one the other day and this guy took out a little point and shoot surrepticisouly. It was definately not cool. I mean being overt about it is one thing, but trying to hide it and take pictures at the same time is quite another.

He he he ... I have never been to a nude beach. I have only visited clothed beaches in uniforms. :D

I like your word ... "surrepticisouly".

If I were smart, I would have known such a word.

I think Elliot Erwitt has done some nice picture from nudist places.

I'm not sure what the legalities are of taking pictures of other people on a nude beach. Do the rules of street photography apply? On another site, someone

Rules of common sense are applied everywhere. Nudists are like all other people - some of them don't care about being photographed, and other can be sensitive/get angry when stranger with a camera approaches them.
Naked photographers probably have better chance.. becouse they are sort of "invisible" in nude beach :)

I guess it's up to me,

Where the hell's the naked wimmin (my apologies to the Maplethorpe followers)!!!??? Reminds me of the friend who once stated that if they had a band they would name it Free Beer, No Cover.

I see that this thread has not died yet. Good. This is to me more interesting than reading about a new lens ...

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6344/1997/1600/People on Beach e.jpg No nudes but it was on the beach at sunrise, Crandon Park, Key Biscayne. This was one of the out-takes from a record album cover shoot for a rock group named Fantasy. I liked this one better than the one they chose to use. They came out with a couple of albums back in 1968. One stayed on the charts for a few months. Then the lead singer walked out into the Everglades and blew his brains out.

Okay, I only looked because there were 75 hits in here already...at least I waited for a bit before diving in...and thanks to furcafe I got to see some boobies...

Fantasy's lead singer, Billy Robbins, if my memory is right, walked out into the Everglades and blew his brains out. A few years later the group reformed briefly with a new member or two and went no place. The world had changed, Liberty had merged with United Artists to become Liberty/UA, and their producer Wayne had gone to greener pastures elsewhere. That was all about forty years ago! For a few years I'd run into drummer Greg Kimple on occasion. The others? I have no idea. I have also run into a few former groupies that I knew from that era.

Al,

Have you ever put together a photo collection of groupies?

Sorry, Raid, I haven't done that. On rare occasions I'll hear my name called out by somebody out of the past who recognized me from the 60's or 70's, or get an email from someone who was Googling the name of a group or musician and came upon one of my photos on the 'net. What might be interesting would be to do a series of photos now of all those middle aged grandmothers who used to be groupies forty odd years ago.

The sad fact is that I fell into the same trap many of us do. We tend to concentrate on the stars, not the groupies and not the hard working roadies who set up the equipment. Nobody photographs the grips who set up the lights or the sound people either.

A couple of years ago I got an email from a "girl" out of the past. We exchanged a couple of emails, then chatted on the phone. She'd been very cute, had a pretty face with long brown hair, sexy, and had a great personality. She'd found me through my posted photos on line. She now lives with her husband about 100 miles north of here, has a few grown kids and several grandchildren. Her hair is short and greying and she said that she now weighs over 300 pounds. Another illusion shattered!

Let's hear it, Former Groupies! It doesn't matter if I knew or photographed you back then or not. If you were a groupie in South Florida, or elsewhere and are planning a trip here, get in touch with me and we'll set up a photo shoot! Maybe we can get a book out of it.

Al,
Actually, it is exactly what you are describing that came to my mind; a photography project of Ex-Groupies. This would be a very interesting album indeed. If the models then give you an old portrait of themselves from the times when they were active groupies, then having side by side photos would be "interesting".

Maybe some people have forgotten about the "bait" here!
Bump ... for additional newbie victims.
