In previous thread I did it at 1600 and the negative got thin, but good for scanning. This time, I saw gorgeous contrast and open shadows. Seems to me that highlights are burnt a bit. Attached samples were worked in PS for levels to my taste.
I think TRIX will be best developed in Diafine if shot at 800 or 1000 ASA

IZr,
What do the highlights look like on the negs? Is there detail there? It's hard to tell on a computer monitor.
I really like HP5+ @ 800 in Diafine. That combination has become one of my standards.

Most people after some experimenting seem to land at ISO 1000-1250 being more realistic than the 1600 claimed on the package.

I shoot it at box speed and like the results. But I avoid high contrast scenes most of the time.

Lazar:

I shoot TriX at 1250 and develop in Diafine. I like the look. See below:

Hi Lazar,
I was wondering.. where did you get Diafine in Israel?
Someone recently asked me the same question, but I thought international sellers won't ship chemicals.. or are powders an exception?

Sorry if this is PM material :)

JeffGreene,
Thats a great photo. This is precisely the look I like best in B&W. I have, both, Tri-X and Diafine. I can't wait to try it out !

Thanks, SRTIWARI. I used to use DDX, which I also like a lot, but have been using Diafine for about the last year or two and find it works well for me. When I started with Diafine, I was shooting TRIX at 800, but have found that 1250 works best for me.

Make sure you post some of your first efforts.

Respectfully,

Jeff

Jeff, that looks very fine.

Thanks, Ron. It doesn't always work the way I'd like. Midday shots, even with an orange or yellow filter, sometimes get a bit too contrasty and I seem to lose highlight detail. See below:

Jeff, I think you are losing shadow detail, too. Maybe my monitor (or your scan), but the women in the photo has nothing, coat and pants. The child's face is a zero too. Shadows are blue (sky) light so maybe it is just your Yellow or Orange filter. But as someone said don't use it on some similar shots and see if things are better.

Jeff - good open shadows, but I need black in the shot. The whites are beautiful as are the grey tones

Lazar:

I really like the image below. Reminds me of an abstract form study in geometry. I like the contrast and texture in this shot.

If you like Diafine, you should also try Emofin (Tetenal) , also a 2 step developer! You might be in for a surprise!
Best regards

Thanks Jeff.
I am ready to go with TRIX at 800. Next step will be 1200.
The door you see is our home entry
Attached is the full frame shot negative (horizontal version)

Thanks for the advice, findwolfhard. I'll try to get the Emofin in the future. I have stock of Diafine and Rodinal now
