Went out today... It felt like war. Terrible snow storm, icey snow almost cutting facial skin. Hard to breathe. I've braved 32 long canadian winters but this one is the worst I've ever encountered.

I usually know when I snap a keeper. There's that adrenalin rush. I think I nailed quite a few unique shots. Can't wait to develop the films.

For now, here is my Leica being what it is, at its best :D

The camera was near impossible to hold as it was frozen just like an Ice cube. The viewfinder froze, too, and I couldn't see anything at some point. I started zone focusing at f1.0... Boy I can't wait to see the resutls! I'm fairly confident, though!

Bloody hell ... you continue to treat that camera like that and you will incur the wrath of the 'Leica God' ... whoever that is, I'm not sure.

I have to see the pics that made you brave such conditions ... post them soon! :)

Looking forward to seeing some more of your snow shots, Nenad.

Out of curiosity, do you use a filter on your lens when you shoot in those conditions?

spiffy. let's see if the supposedly less resilient electronic shutter makes it out of the thaw.

The Leica God is on the M7, Keith! ;) I think he likes it that way...

I always use filters. The amount of gum and scum that sticks on glass in no time is incredible. I am not an equipment freak, but filters are a must for me!

What did you do to help the camera recover?

A good wipe and let to rest for 2 hours before playing with it again.

I have total confidence in the M7. Once, the battery died on me and I used brain-meter and the available mechanical speeds (1/60 and 1/125) without a single problem. In tricky light conditions, I prefer to have AE.

Boy howdy. That is just mean.
The most I have done with my
M3 is the rain, and that was light.

Then again I don't have an expendable
income to buy an M7 and a Noctilux.

I reckon it's great that Ned ventures out into these sorts of conditions with $8000 worth of camera gear and just lets it do it's stuff.

I got a little dust on my M8 the other day ... but it wiped off! :p

Sometimes I think the biggest danger a Leica suffers is having coffee spilled on it!

Haha those are awesome Ned.

One day I'll own a leica body of some sort just to be able to weather extremes. Hah! :)

very cool.. I remember that my olympus om2 died after very light rain drizzle. LEt's hope leica could do better than that.

I wonder if one has do CLA more often when water goes through leica body more often. I think about lubricants.

Well, I did -25 Celdiud with the Bessa R and everything from the meter to the rangefinder was working...

.... and there goes that Noct that you're so good with .... all wet & dirty. imagine the fungus that's just waiting to happen! send it here to Calgary... nice & dry w/ 10 degree weather... I'll look after it for you ;)

Is it okay to take Ms out into adverse conditions like that? I had my new M3 in a snow storm once and I thought it would break ...

That's nothing. I want to see what your face looked like! :D

Really, I commend you. Now you got me feeling guilty for not having my battle-ready MP out in the same. Can't wait to see some of your pics.

Much braver than me. I contented myself to a night of reading photography magazines. That was one bad storm.

Cheers.

Oh, the humanity.

I've found all my Leica Ms performing just fine in subfreezing temperatures, snow or rain (yes, sometimes you get freak rain in subfreezing temperatures).
