Canon 50mm/1.2 examples

It seems that my example of the Canon 50/1.2 is exceptionally good. I have read about not so good examples being sold here and there.

I like these last three of the Canon shots the best -- I really like the way the lens renders colors in these. The light pastel blue of the doors in the first one is really lovely, and is a good contrast w/ the bolder colors of your daughter's outfit (and the fab sunglasses!).

We were walking downtown Pensacola on Palafox Street, which has many older buildings with interesting architecture. When we passed that doorway, I knew it was perfect for a photo of Dana.

Raid. The Canon 50mm F1.2 is a beautiful lens and as many others here have pointed out, a very good value. Here is my son photographed indoors near the pendulum at Griffith Planetarium (dim interior lighting) on ISO 200 film from the 99 cent store film at F1.2 and about 1/15 hand-held on a Canon 7 (a great host for the 50/1.2). Not arrestingly sharp, but nice bokeh and color rendition. This would be an impossible shot to get without a flash on any other rangefinder unless it had a Noctilix or a similar rare lens (e.g. Zunow).

The photo looks good to me. The 1.2 max aperture really opens the door for such difficult light situations. I also try the slow speeds when needed.

Actually Krosya ... I reckon your lens is a little sharper wide open than mine! 😛

I've done some tests with mine on my M8 and it's definitely a little doughy at f1.2 ... nice for portraits though!

As far as lens sharpness - while mine is a very clean example, it's still not as sharp as my Hexanons or a Nokton , plus it's a bit harder to focus it at 1.2 as DOF is very narrow. WHile I use it less and less since I got the 35/1.2, I still like the tones of it, smooth and understated. Not bad in bokeh dept too. 😉
But after all I still may sell it, since I prefer Nokton . We'll see.
