Yes that is M for new Member
and M for new M2
First of let me introduce myself, Ive been sneaking around on the forum for a while but now I feel I am going to get more involved.
I am 21 years old and studies photography at a school in Stockholm, Sweden. Apart from photography I am interested in, amongst other things, politics, music, travells, litterature, skateboarding, street art, and life in the city.
I consider myself a libertarian socialist and I am a member of the syndicalists labour union here in sweden. I occasionaly write some articles and snap a few shots for a magazine to earn some extra money.
In photography I am mostly interested in taking photos of "real" and "honest" stuff, without sounding to pretenious. That is searching, hunting and chasing my subjects rather than constructing them. That leads me to a documentary style of photography and I particulary enjoy the challenge of taking photos in the streets.
I came into rangefinders through "the back door". My first camera was a digital compact, just 5 years ago. The next year I bought a Canons DSLR. And then I started to borrow books from the library, finding and making my own heroes of photography. Their images all had something mine lacked, a material feeling. So I got a Canon SLR and started to shoot some film, set up a darkroom and did my first (horrible) prints.
Last year I enrolled to a full time photography school and started to get some more experience, shot lots of film and began to realise that I was looking for something more simple yet more sophistcated (oh no, pretentious again!) than a SLR. (Also I went nuts and got several other cameras to toy around with, medium format, folders, lots of old stuff, Olympus XAs and so on)
So at last I bought a Leica CL, which I am now selling and since it didnt quite "feel right" (and now I am both picky and pretentious)
I decided to get M2. To keep it simple and learn stuff about light and not to use a light meter and seeing the image without obstructing technological mumbojumbo (yes you know the drill, an excuse for getting a M camera just five years younger than your father) ..
So here I am.
And here is my new camera, now Im just waiting for those 120 meters of bulk film to arrive so I can go out and snap some!

Welcome, and congratulations on getting the M2 - I've only just (yesterday) got one myself. I have other cameras (RF, SLR), but I really like the M2.
I came to RF photography late too - in my case after 35 years of SLR photography (and not a DSLR in sight!).

Valkommen till darhuset! Your M2 is a perfect choice for what you are shooting. To much time is spent analyzing exposures etc - film has latitude and the critical part is to get the shot -now!
Which film are you going to use?
Vilken Fotoskola gar du till i Sverige?

Welcome! Actually I bought my first M-2 in Stockholm some 12 years ago - while there were still lots of them about. Its a great camera - especially I like that it has frames for 35-50-90 only.
Another tip is simply to put your finger over the rangefinder window after focusing, it makes for a much cleaner view. Got that as a really strong habit using the M-2 myself, less so with 4s and 6-es....

Haha tack så mycket!
How come you got those swedish sentences nailed?
Yes Ive been shooting exclusivly with the M2 since I got it and it grows on me.
Im buying a 35mm lens from Mattia Marchi here on RFF later this week and then Im ready for anything!
Im waiting for 120 meters (4 x 30mm bulk film) of Agfa ISO 400 film to arrive so that is what I will be using for a while now. Never tried it before but it was a good price so, couldnt resist.
Jag går till Kulturama skolan, its a full time! We have some great teachers who are all active photographers in different fields. If you got some time you should look at two of them's books:
Thore Sandahl - Stolen Moments
Nina Korhonen - Amerika momu
Animal: thanks for the tip, Ill try that!

I too am waiting on an M2 from another member. There seemed to be a bunch of them on sale at one go.

Welcome. The M2 is a fine machine. If I were you, I wouldn't dismiss exposure meters -- and I wouldn't restrict myself to the M2. Use the right tool for the job is what I mean.

I use my VC meter II with the m2 but just to check the exposure every once in a while.. I hope I will have to do it more and more seldom

Jag ar svensk fran borjan! Uppsala, Skane,Lund, Goteborg,Stockholm etc. Lamnade 1970 ock har bott it Canada sedan 1975.
The APX 400 is a good film, not super fine-grain and it is a bit developer dependant. Works very well with Rodinal and also with D 76?ID 11 type "soups". My favourite for it is a home-made brew, concocted by Geoffrey Crawley of British Journal of Photography fame. You have to make it yourself, but it does not contain anything that would be difficult to aquire.
I knew of Korhonen from before and Sandahl is interesting. I try to follow the nordic photographers a bit. When I lived in Stockholm, in the late 60's, Christer Stromholm was the big name of course. Then there are Anders Petersen, Nyquist.

Jaha där ser man! Hur kommer det sig att du flyttade till Canada?
Great for me then that I am using Rodinal! So this home-made developer, whats the benefits of using it and how cost effective is it?
Yes, Anders Petersen was a major reason for me to get involved in photography. I used to borrow all of his books from the library.
Well, now I am of to snap some frames!

It feels really great to use, got some snaps today between Mariatorget och Medborgarplatsen. Will process first roll tomorrow!

Googla runt lite...
