I just received an excellent-looking Canon P from the classifieds. Now, the hard part. Do I want a 50 or a 35? I also need to find my Coolpix 885 and get some pictures of all my RF gear for you gear heads...

Congrats, Al. IMHO, the P and a 50 were made for each other. The only question is WHICH 50! And that is a topic that is covered in a number of other recent (and vintage) threads...

i highly recomend the canon 35/2.8 for your new p though the 50mm framelines are a bit easier to see if you wear glasses.
a clean canon 50/1.8 is cheap, sharp and much smaller than the 1.4.
for a bit more money, same size but heavier, the canon 50/1.5 sonnar is a classic lens and provides the sonnar look.

Al -- Joe's lens recommendations are spot on. I see you have a 50mm Hexanon. The 50/1.5 Canon (or other Sonnar clones like the Jupiter 3) would give you a very different look in the 50 focal length. Tessar-type lenses, like the Leitz 50/3.5 Elmar, are also worth considering. In 35, the Canon 35/1.8 and the CV 35/2.5 skopar classic also balance well w/ the P; the 35/2.8 (recommended by Joe) is tiny, and is worth looking for if you want a more classic, 50s era look to your shots.

I hope to have a lens by then, but I'll bring it even if I don't. With bifocals, the 35 frame is very hard to see. But then again, I can't see the entire viewfinder in the GSN or my A-1 SLRs. I see about 80% in the SLR or GSN, and maybe 90% of the 50 framelines on the P. So, I'll start with a 50 when I can find one.

I screwed on the CV Ultron 35/1.7 and don't want to take it off. Well, only to switch it to my Bessa R, which also gets a fair share of a workout by me. 35, I have found, is my "natural" vision.

I find that the Canon P ihas become one of my favorite cameras- and THE favorite for LTM lenses.

I love using the Canon 35/2 and the 50/1.5 on my P. They give entirely different looks, irrespective of the change in view. It can make an interesting shoot. If you are fortunate, you can find the black 35mm external VF, which will heighten your pleasure, and make your viewing easier, especially if you are an eyeglass wearer.
For a quick, inexpensive and good lens, it is hard to beat a properly setup FSU 50, like the Jupiter 8, or for a bit more money, the Canon chrome 50/1.8, which is a VERY fine performer. Really, it's tough to find a Canon lens that doesn't perform well, or have other redeeming qualities. It's similar to the Leica situation with the Summar/Summitar/Summicron, except Canon never advanced RF lens technology into the Summicron class (alas....🙁).
