I'm gonna take a fall...

... but the meterless Kiev's are more beautiful!

I would said that in my opinion it depends on which kind of metered Kiev we talk about.

The metered ones from the sixties are by far among the most beauty appealing Kievs of all times, to my taste.

Oh great, now you've got Ruben all stirred up and active again... Just kidding Ruben, jeesh, we really need a sarcasm emoticon... Get the Kiev any technical issues can be sorted out by asking here. There are a great group of guys here who either know the answer, or know where to find the answer. Don't let the critics get you. The Kiev vs contax vs nikon debate has been going on almost as long as the canon vs nikon debate. I shoot Nikon SLR exclusively, I would shoot Nikon RF equipment if I had the money. Heck, if I had that kind of money laying around, I would buy another car first, but that is a whole 'nother thread. Get your Kiev and get to know it. Once you learn the rules, you can break them.

I forgot to add "In my humble opinion." After all, it's the only one I've got! A meterless Kiev is a racehorse, a metered Kiev is a camel. In my opinion. ;)

In fact for a long time I am assembling the materials (Kiev bodies) to build an exhuberant black Kiev 4, with that big chromed light metering dial left as is. The top plate will have to be black and I am still thinking about the top part covering the needle and surrounding the shoe. Here I am not clear about the finnish.

The finnish is not the only problem, but the light meter too. Because a very soft mechanism Kiev 4 has a non working meter. With another it is viceversa. And the black painted parts are in a third one.

Yet the issue is time. Time Time Time.
Time for RFF
Time for the Weekly Picks
Time for shooting myself
Time for processing what I shoot....

Cheers,
Ruben

In the beginning I would not have considered the meter look and instead opted for the sleek Kiev 4A but later on I began to appreciate the meter look and it`s purpose. I then bought a Kiev 4 with the low meter.
Now I`m beginning to prefer the look with the higher meter as more appealing and to me it more closely emmulates the authentic Contax appeal.

It`s strictly a personal thing and with me always subject to change..

Solares:

My Kiev 4AM has a take-up spool, it's built in and obviously came that way. Maybe earlier models did not have one?

Well, I fell. Ted made an offer I couldn't refuse... and I just sent payment. The saga will probably continue in a separate thread. :)
