Gloves - I needs me my dexterity. However, if it's cold enough to warrant mittens, I go with mittens because at that point I'm not doing anything that finger-critical anyway unless I'm inside.

Now, what's these things called that's halfway between a mitten and a glove? They've got the index and middle finder sewn together, and the ring and little finger..
Well, whatever they're called, I got a pair of these for riding motorcycle in winter and I think they're great for that.. But they're completely useless for most anything else (i.e. where you need your index finger)..
