But then again for someone who over dislikes color digital for all but basic family snaps (and then mostly for film savings and convenience) the Foveon chip gives less of a clinical and plasticky look to the images and I like that. Limited uses but for that it can be nice. I would have been upset paying $300 for this camera but for $65 it's worth it just to play around with a Foveon chip.

Thanks! And nice photos - I could be imagining things, but I have to agree that they look 'different' to me too. And I agree that the camera was not worth its original retail price, but for what we paid - bang on.

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. I believe it is due in today. Can't wait.

UPDATE: Camera arrived. I'm liking it so far. Same issues you noted. Big, clunky, slow. Also, it did not like the first 1 gig SD card I fed it - printed lines on everything, made me think it had gone wonky already. But no, it just wanted a faster/better quality SD card. Cool.





I can't imagine myself carrying the clunker everywhere, but I also find the images it seems to be capable of making to be strangely compelling. Different in a way I can't quite put my finger on.

Nice Bill! Yeah, sounds like we're feeling the same about it. I'll be shooting more soon, especially trying some portrait and people shots. It's supposedly pretty good with skin tones. Sort of limit to 8x10 tops it seems in print size, which is another limiting factor too. Keep posting a few more images if you will, and comments too. I'll do the same.

Here's a few more from me (yes, boring flower shots again). I'm particularly pleased at the smooth tonal range captured, and most of these are in strong mid-day sun, where my P&S digicams just do not do well for me. Funny aspect I'm finding, a positive IMO, is that these images look like fill-flash was used, when it was not....

I got one the 530 out of curiosity and quite like the image quality in good light. The only thing that bothers me about this camera is the lens cap that won't stay on 🙂

True about the lens cap. Actually, about both statements. I haven't used mine enough recently - it's sitting on the charger waiting patiently for me to find out what else, if anything, it might be good at.

Yeah, that external plastic cap does fall off easily, however that's almost like a double-protection as the lens itself is still covered by the two plastic lens covers that slide over the lens when it's turned off. A couple digicams I've had in the past only had that kind of lens coverage for lens protection!

Amazingly, as easy as it is to remove that cap, I've heard the lens motor grind alarmingly when I turned on the camera with the cap on and it had to push it off. Pathetic!

However, it really is a minor quibble. It's the results I like.
