Looks like the shutter tapes failed on my Contax II this morning. Does anyone have any suggestions for repair places other than Henry Scherer? I really don't want to wait a couple of years to get the camera done, and after perusing his website I'm rather disgusted by his arrogance.

Try Steve at http://www.camera-care.com. Contrary to some experience reports you'll find, he is quite good. He repaired my IIIa in less than a week and the work was flawless. In fact everything I've sent him has been more than satisfactory.
Since you are in the states, you'll not have the import issues others may suffer.

I would agree that Steve Serota is very good.

Serota services all Contax models from the original Contax, Contax II to the Contax IIa and IIIa.
He services everything but the meters, he does not repair those. He also does Kiev II and everything newer.

There is a great technicien in Buenos Aires:
Mr. Jorge Massen was trained in Germany and offered offitial service to Contax cameras in Buenos Aires. Now he is retired but is still doing special works at home: 4795-7575. You should check with him, the availability of original spare parts in advance.

It doesn´t sounds arrogance to me...
I think it could be a language problem.
I really do not know him at all, and it is not my intention to explain that particular case, but in general terms, people that deals with excelence, perfectionism, and extreme care, in their work, are not common nowadays, and could sound weird, perhaps arrogant, because they are not driven by money, but by love for their work.
From a diferent viewpoint, it is not nice to stay waiting for one year, nor paying high sums for the service, because we are used to receive a faster and cheaper solutions for our modern hardware, but trying to compare both situations seems not possible in this case...
My two cents.

I guess he'll have to jump out the window now.
He then should update his website with these data...

I had my IIIa serviced by HS some years ago. A good job? Certainly. - Perfectionism, extreme care? Hardly. Your mileage may vary, but my camera came back with incorrect (i.e. different heads as compared to factory ones) front cover screws, red paint in the lens mounting guide dot that fell down the first time a lens was mounted, and a new meter cell that failed in a couple of years. The first two are mere details, but perfectionists do care about those.
Of course, arrogance is a matter of subjective perception, but I do agree with Chris here.

I emailed the seller back shortly after the failure occured, and he's agreed to take care of the repair. (It did fail on the very first roll.) Keep your fingers crossed.
