Just got a Coolscan V from B&H this week , after scanning some slides I realised that I was consistently getting a faint band near the edge of the top frame. (see the picture) It doesnt happen to all the slides, just the ones with blue skies, light colors near the edge of the frame. Anyone has this problem ?

I've never noticed this with mine, but I'll look closer when I get home. Which film holder/feeder are you using? Does it happen with both?

I think that's shutter bounce, not the scanner. Time for CLA.
I have it with one of 4 bodies, but don't know which (grr...2 are recent CLA Canon F1, but I'd planned on CLA for my Canon Ps). I need to test all of them, once and for all...one roll ought to do it....long sets of shutter speeds, all making the same exposure.
Nikon V tells more truth about film than will any optical enlarger.

Found the problem... its some dust on the CCD. After using the blower, the problem didnt occur again.
Its not shutter bounce for sure, because it showed on my F90x, M6, FM images.

I had that with my Coolscan also. It really baffled me and was a cause of many swear words after finishing a pile of 100 slide scans.

so how did you remedy the problem?

I have the same issue occasionally with my Coolscan 5000 ED. It seems to happen when the frame edge has a uniform strong bright area. I had thought it was internal reflection in the scanner holder. I haven't found a solution but fortunately it only happens with a small number of frames.

I VERY CAREFULLY got my tweazers and removed a rather large hair from inside it the unit! Damn cats.

Ok the problem is back. And like Keith said, it seemed to be due to some internal reflection. I only happens on frames with very uniform brightness along the edges.
