hello

i have found a xpan for 1500aud (australian dollars) with the 45mm lens, about 1421 usd

its obviously an user, there is missing paint around various areas of the body...is 1500aud a good price?? and is there anything i should be looking out for?

what if its a xpan 1 or 2? does it present itself as good value?

can someone give me some experience with using the xpan and framing for street photography

I've seen ones in better cosmetic condition go fairly regularly for 1,600 to 1,800 US on the Bay. And I've seen ones like the one you describe go in the same range. Variation seems almost to depend more on the time of closing and how many people are bidding than on quality alone. I just bought one, described as in better condition (w. picture support) than the one you describe for under 1700 and saw one in condition you describe asking 1850 (it didn't quite reach that mark when it sold).

For me, local access and a chance to see/use/return is worth a bit of a premium as insurance against a problem. I use sold prices on eBay and asking prices at keh to establish a range. Many people find bargain condition keh (they emphasize cosmetics in their rating) to be better than that and they have a good return policy.

At the end of the day 1421 US seems a reasonable price if you can live with the cosmetics.

The 2's seem to command a large increment.

Not in a position to offer answers to other parts.

Don't know if the gumtree ad is legit or not.

I wouldn't worry about paint loss, as long as everything works fine. The first model had a lousy paint job. I think the Hasselblad version was a bit of an afterthought.

If the seller reckons everything works fine, go for it.

I had one that I sold for $1500 with a 45mm lens. It had some paint loss and a low shutter count. I've regretted selling it ever since, however at the time I needed the money.
In my opinion your price is a good one. The Xpan is an excellent camera and the 45mm lens is very sharp. I wish i kept mine..

Bit down the line, sorry, -- but fyi, my friend who uses and sells Xpans tells me there is a lot of interest in them now, which translates to generally higher prices. He adds that the paint is not the camera's strong point, and they often lose it rather easily.

Regards, John
