Yesterday, while shopping with my wife for a new shoes for our daughter, the sales women at the counter noticed my beaten up M3 hanging off my shoulder. She kindly asked to see it, was excited to see someone who is still actually using that kind of heritage and told she has some kind of camera stuff of that era that she has no clue what camera it is and what to do with that...
She asked my phone number, while certainly somewhat flattering feeling, having my wife standing behind creates some kind of embarrassment situation...😀. Anyway, I don't think she meant something beyond camera interest...but you know...female's logic isn't always male-comprehensible...😉
Nonetheless, she got my phone, so will see what will happen (not without reporting to my best half of course...)

Anyone here has experienced his Leica (or other RF, TLR) to aid unintentionally in dating affairs...?

But in all seriousness, no, the only folks who have every inquired about a camera I was lugging around have been hairy old guys who look like they don't get out much.

Few minutes later in the car driving home my wife insisted me to let her immediately if that women will indeed call me. Well, she (my wife) will have no issues with that as long as it proves to be camera-related only...
 
The younger Generation seems to appreciate classic equipment. I was paid a compliment on my Canon P with the Sonnar this week by a Teenager running the train ride that I took Nikki on.
 
I used my M2 last weekend at a pub gathering for a friend's birthday. One of the guests, a young, glamourous Frenchwoman in her mid 20's who works at a digital media agency in London, was in raptures over my "Leeca" as she called it and is now determined to get one herself.
 
It is all making sense now.

That is why she keeps insisting that I should sell my Leica gear.

and I thought it was to help pay for that solarium edition to the house.

A good story, albeit what I really meant is camera to be just the tool ...😉
 
I would think the fact that you created a post about it may cause more troubles with the wife than the actual event!

As far as the question goes, depends what you mean by dating. The M's a sturdy cam, so one quick thump on her noggin oughta... Kidding if course!
 
Xmm, actually posting that thread I considered the fact that my wife is just near the opposite side of love/hate relationship to my hobby, can't imagine her visiting photography forums..🙂
Having said that, it could be expected for an unexpected once it comes from women (and wife in particular)...🙂
Besides, I don't think that lady in the shop had any real-life intentions (at least I do not), in particular being aware of my wife behind me while asking for my phone number...
 
For some reason, my Leicas attract more feminine than masculine attention. Or so it seems.

But now I think it's a matter of openness, rather. Women are less inhibited than men when it comes to speaking to strangers.

Recently, in Europe, I got compliments from two males. One, in the Nuremberg zoo, was obviously a pro, lugging two Nikon D3 around his neck and trying to photograph Flocke, the polar bear cub-celebrity. He didn't speak much English, but pointed at my Leica and said in German "That's a very good camera."

The other was a guy in a suit and a tie, who said, very loudly, "that's a very pretty Leica camera" to me (in Deutsch). I was walking down Praguerstrasse, and he was going in the opposite direction, but when I saw him come I also noticed a big grin in his face.

However, I have had some more reactions from women than from men. Dating approaches? Nah... just cameras that are so openly different from the mainstream digital that some people have to ask about them.
 
I went to my friend's wedding party couple months ago. He works in a TV company, so he gets lot of co-worker w/ PRO camera. During that time, i did not have my M6 yet, I took my Bessa-R with me and took some pics. Finally, some ladies interested my small camera, but huge DSLR by other guys. It made me smill for after couple days....
 
Welllll, I did a shoot last week with a pretty girl. I think my M2 looks good on her:

I went out with two girls I met in the darkroom. That's about my experience. But I spent all my time in there. It was the only place I met anyone to strike up a conversation with.
