A friend of mine and myself went out today and shot random shots of people on the street in New Orleans and i just thought I would share... I got the idea from a website and thought I would try it out... I am hoping that this will be an ongoing project for me. These were all with my m8 & 35/50

Hope everyone has a great weekend (and this is in the right thread.. my first time starting a thread showing work)....

Blessings.
Jason

Great work mate! Sure beats sneaking around and everyone seems pretty happy to share the moment. Good job. John

Thanks for the encouragement.... I was really happy with the way that everything turned out... People walking around the Quarter in New Orleans are usually pretty turned off to anyone talking to them because there are so many street peddlers.... It was definitely a learning experience and I hope to shoot again... after all I already have the signs :)

Very nice technique to influence cooperation! I like that. I also like establishing direct contact with the subject. Clearly a different photo, of course, than otherwise...

grainy shadows - we had the sign (in the photo) and also would say "working on a project, can we take your photo and you get a lolipop"... seemed to work pretty well... i am actually going to be in kansas city next week and we are going to try it again....

joe - i actually kind of stole the idea from a website - photojo - i hope to keep it running more of like a project tho.

BTW - I was actually the guy holding the sign and Jason & I were working on the project together

Well I seem to be the odd one out here. Im not so keen. I think its probably just that all of them are head on passport style pics and it seems very unnnatural to me. Interesting idea though!
Best wishes

Richard

mmmm Lolipop. Cool idea, could be alot of fun and definitely a great way to get out of a creative block if you ever bump into one.

Richard - Thanks so much for your feedback. Really this first time was just to get ourselves out there and outside of our comfort zone. I hope that our next shoot (next week in Kansas City) that I can focus more on composition and content :)

A different idea.

A different idea.

The lollipop is a cool idea, if you like all poser shots. I personally prefer candid shots. One method I use that always works is, use a decoy model. Put him or her at any place where they will not interfere with your shot. Then just crop out your model. Bill

Very cool idea Jason and Benjamin! As it was your intent to do head on portraits, there is nothing at all wrong with shooting your intent. All this push to have every street shot be candid is boring. Your idea is fresh. I especially like the one where you show the sucker. Er, lollipop.

Thanks for the encouragement Chris.... It was really alot of fun... I will make sure to post some from Kansas City when we get back next week!
