Alright... these new designs don't exist quite yet, but maybe...

If you haven't read it yet, check out Mike Johnson's latest entry in his blog "The Online Photographer".

Mike has done a lot of thinking about how digital camera designs continue to miss the mark in ways important to PHOTOGRAPHERS! He has a VERY interesting camera design wish list... check it out at:

I've seen all of those ideas before and I think some of them would be just brilliant.
As to why we don't see them...seems obvious. The current formula works, both from a user's point of view and from the pov of the manufacturer out to make money.
Contrary to any corporate vision statement on being "Innovative," or "Making the best possible yada yada," the real vision of any corporation is to make money. The risk/return equation for any radical design change does not look attractive to Canon or Nikon as they are able to just about print money with their current proven designs.
Oly, Sigma and Fuji have all stepped out a bit from the norm and carved out niches for themselves with their slightly differentiated products. No killer aps though, no taking the world by storm.

the digital" Canonet " with an APS-C sized sensor and a fixed 25mm f2 lens is an idea that should be made into reality.

this is the same as my digital Yashica GSN suggestion of a few months back.

I'd go for either or those, or a digital Konica Auto S3, or a digital Leica CL. In the meantime, I guess I'm stuck with a DSLR.

the sony f717/r1 with square sensor and IS sounds delish. i'm imagining it with a rollei style folding hood on a superfine lcd like the new nikons have...
