After reading so much about the Xtol and Rodinal combo I thought I would give it a try.

The results are impressive, the rodinal helped tame the highlights. Its not very noticable in the picture but the negatives show extremly fine tonal ranges. Grain has also gone up a tiny bit as opposed to souping in Xtol alone, its hard to tell with a film like Acros.

So far Ive only done 1 roll but Im definetly going to try out different times and dilutions.

I uploaded the original full size versions on flickr, have a look.

In the set I have two versions, PS=photoshop, tweaked with the levels and curves a little. The other comes unedited from the scanner.
(fyi; the M1 Ive noticed has a tendency to mellow out the contrast of a negative)

That looks very promising and good to me. The tonality is well balanced and lots of fine details visible. That must look great as a wet-print !!

I have tried this combination only once (XTOL 1:1 + Rodinal 1:100, 15 min at 20 degrees) to "save" a roll of ACROS that I had accidentally exposed as an 400 ISO film.

What dilution time did you use ?

Wow, that combo is stunning! It makes me want to forget about the HC-110 I'm using and try this. Are XTOL and Rodinal powder or liquid developers?

XTOL is a powder developer and you have to make 5 liter of solution at once ... (and it should be used within 4 month or so and stored without to much air - oxygen - in the bottles)

Rodinal is a liquid concentrate that lasts forever. It is getting brown with time but that doesn't have any effect.

What dilutions?

What dilutions?

Yes - all examples have great details in highlights - so what are the dilutions Itsreallydarren?

Maddoc - when you say XTOL 1:1 + Rodinal 1:100, is that a 50:50 mix between the diluted xtol and diluted rodinal? Or is it say, 500 ml of water, 5 ml of rodinal and 500 ml of undiluted Xtol?

Are the shadows blocking up a bit or is that just my monitor?

I cant wait to get these negatives in the darkroom!

I used Xtol at 1:1 (300ml) and Rodinal 1:100 (6ml) and 300ml of water. Developed for 8:30 with 2 inversions / 5 seconds every minute at 20C.

I think Ill try Xtol at 1:2 for the next roll.

This sounds pretty similar to what I have used. In my case it was:

XTOL 1:1: 250ml of XTOL stock solution + 250ml of water and then I added 5ml of Rodinal concentrate to the 500ml XTOL. Gives a total of 505 ml solution.
