I can't shoot digital for a while...it's killing me slowly (edit: also I can't stand the fact that i have to charge batteries all the freaking time). I love my m8 and all, but it's being delegated to work only from now on. I miss the proper look, feel, and smell involved with film (granted it's only been 3 weeks since the last time i was in the darkroom). Now here's the fun part to this post, I feel like changing things up a wee bit and want to try a different paper. Now I may sound a little elitist but I don't use none of that RC nonsense, so what kind of fiber paper do you folks like to use/why. I've used forte and oriental lately with some pretty nice results...what else?

Oh and for the folks here in the states happy 4th, go forth and blow something up (this silly northern state i'm stuck in right now won't let me buy fireworks 🙁 )


edit2: Also can anyone suggest a decent film scanner for b&w negs, mine just died a horrible death (dog smacked into the shelf and knocked it on the floor)

Ok late night national geographic has some world music television stuff on....holy god russian hip hop is hilarious.

What was the scanner your dog killed? I'm pretty happy with my Nikon Coolscan V, even with the original software it's pretty good once you learn how to drive it.
 
Here here. My M8 sits on a shelf until a cheque is involved. And the M7 is my all around everyday camera. Sometimes if I get a last minute assignment and the M8's batteries aren't charged and the cards not emptied. I'll grab the M7 to take to work. To hell with digital being mandatory. Scans are just as good.

I use an Epson V700. It serves me well.
 
I switch between numerous cameras all the time. Digital, film, whatever.

Each time I use a camera that uses a different storage media, should I make a public announcement?
 
Buy a spare battery and card.
Do you forget to load film?

Does the same apply to your cellphone? Leave it at home and carry a string and two cans? : )

I can understand a film bias, but the battery and/or card download issue makes little sense to me. It's easier to swap batteries and download from a card than to buy, store, load, process, scan, and archive film.
 
Do you remember some decade ago when the feeling was digital is the next alien breed conquering the planet ?

Threads like this one make me feel that our world is turning towards diversification, but I do not have the statistics.

It is not an issue of how many digis are being sold. It is about weather fulm users will have a place. Some years ago it looked as if the answer is absolutely No. But the years are passing by and we still are here.

I just printed some stuff on Ilford warmtone fiber. Never thought to try it before but it's quite nice for certain images.
 
Anyone not using fulminate of mercury to fix their images onto metal plates is not making a "real" photograph, in my opinion.

Pffffft, what is all this talk of making a new-fangled permanent image ?? The "real thing" is walking in to a dark tent, seeing the image upside-down on the white sheet - then remembering it . . .

This was all just done in fun to see what people like to print on, because when you get into your routine of shooting, processing, printing it's sometimes fun to remember that other people have an entirely different way of approaching it and to see what that is.

Heck, I'm even interested in what your process is when printing digitally. I'm always on the lookout for a new way to print digital files...a good friend of mine actually made digital negatives and made platinum prints from them....which was really fun.

This was supposed to be a light, fun thread. So boo to all you party poopers coming and taking offense to nothing, I say HAHA to the party poopers.
