CameraLeather GripTac Covering

I've done a few M3 cameras and the vulcanite on all has just flaked off, no chemicals needed. If it wasn't ready to come off chances are you wouldn't be removing it in the first place. Just put a body cap on the camera and use a bamboo skewer cut at an angle to pry the old covering off the camera... hard enough to pry the stuff off soft enough not to scratch. I then just give it a quick prep with rubbing alcohol to remove any loose particles of vulcanite that remain. You can, of course, use something to get the camera shell new looking (like a mild solvent or abrasive) but if you can't feel it by running your finger over it won't make any difference to how well the new cover adheres to the camera body or how the finished product will feel in the hand. Use a light coating of rubbing alcohol on the adhesive side of the covering to prolong the time you have to make minor adjustments to the fit of the new cover. I have used both major player's coverings and both have worked splendidly. Take your time and don't be afraid.

Love the feel of the Griptac and would replace an M6 cover with one even if the original was in perfect condition. Usual exceptions apply, but mine is a plain Jane M6...

I want to Griptac my new chrome M5, Morgan has responded via email, three-lug (M5) is the only info he needs. So I think I will go for it! I've got muliple ringneck-lizard Minolta SRT's, a B&W Cobra Kiev 6c (the BEAST!!), even a green Kangaroo skin for my fave chrome Minolta SRT100 (my old high-school news camera).

Morgan has always come through.

Could we see some examples please?

On my Bessa, has a really grippy feel, but make sure it is applied in a warm atmosphere if you have to fit it around sharp corners.

Bumping this old thread about griptac cover:

Does anyone knows where to get sheets of the material?
It looks like it is also used for golf clubs or hockey sticks, so it could exist as a raw material, but I can't find a source.

Grip-Tac'ed M4-2 & M5.

Grip-Tac'ed M4-2 & M5.

I was so happy with the way M5 came out with the Grip-Tac, that I also did the same, with M4-2. Morgan did the cutting, and sent the kits. I installed them myself, not had to do, but WOW, M5 vulcanite is tough stuff to remove. I used paint stripper, and alot of time and hard work.

Sanmich,
I would contact Morgan Sparks, and see if he would sell you a sheet of the Grip-Tac.

I'm not in the USA now, but I've heard that it's sold at K-mart or Target under golf accessories as a club re-gripper material (the original purpose). Maybe even golf pro shops carry it too.
