Got this from the l-camera forum and there are some interesting comments that follow:

Leica registers M9 trademark, but not R10
Leica has registered the trademark "M9" with the US Patent Officet as of May (original application last Sept.)
M9: Image recording instruments and apparatus, in particular photographic rangefinder cameras for analogue or digital still image recording
Filing Date September 3, 2007
Published for Opposition February 26, 2008
Registration Date May 13, 2008
Owner Leica Camera AG Oskar-Barnack-Strasse 11 35606 Solms FED REP GERMANY
>>>Leica has NOT registered "R10" - but then it appears they have never registered the R camera names previously.
>>>Nor did they register any M camera names until the M8. Of note; the M8 trademark was registered in May 2006 - 4 months before photokina 06.
Other Leica Camera trademarks recently applied for (2008): Noctivid (low-light or light-amplification scopes, sights, etc.), Aquadura (waterproof coating for optical instruments)
Final note: multiple products can register the same trademark so long as they are not in competing fields: E.g. BMW has also registered "M9" for cars.

I don't know that I would make too much of this but it got my attention ;>)
