Leica has registered the trademark "M9" with the US Patent Officet as of May (original application last Sept.)

Final note: multiple products can register the same trademark so long as they are not in competing fields: E.g. BMW has also registered "M9" for cars.

Read the thread on the l-forum. There may not be an M9 necessarily in production anytime soon.

According to the German thread on l-camera-forum, the term "M9" was registered in Germany some time ago already and Leica just registered the terms "R10" and "R11".
Let's wait for Photokina.

It is 95% certain, based on talks with Leica senior staff, that there will be no M9 this Photokina. I'm referring to the presentation by Mr. Daniel a few weeks ago.My personal idea is maybe 2010 or 2011. With a marginally upgraded M8-2 in between maybe-maybe ( my own idea).
I would expect quite a few lenses, a Nonm the Digilux 3, and I hope a successor to the Digilux 2. And of course a prototype R10.
