After one week of reading the reviews about P&S cameras having 16:9 mode, I decided to take the Exilim XZ-1080. I received it with 8GB SDHC card for $250 equivalent value. I am already very pleased with its performace. Snap shutter, relatively low noice at ISO 800 (can go to 6400), fast boot time, amazing video modes (up to 10 minutes) and easy access to selectable scenes for my wife, audio attachments to every shot and much more. The camera will go into my pocket - lovely setup ready for Provence
Look at 2 test pic I did today. Of course I'll take my Bessa R/CV Skopar 35/2.5

Edit - One more for the set

Thanks, Lazar. I haven't stared at crops for years, but seems for me that hi-sensitivity in compacts have improved over time. If this images are downsized, do they look OK for you? My bet is that $250 spent are working well.

I have an older Casio (Exilim EX-850) as my sole digital camera, and I'm quite impressed with it. Certainly not as capable in low light as Lazar's 1080 (limit is ISO 1600, and it's merely "okay" there), but it's fast on the draw, and very nice up to ISO 400/800, not to mention having versatile flash modes and a sensible control layout. It's only limitation, if I cared enough, is that it shoots 'n saves in any format you like, so long as it's JPEG. If I shot digital "seriously", this would be an issue; as it stands, it's a minor annoyance at best. For the mostly-utilitarian tasks I call upon the camera for, it's almost over-qualified.

In short: Casio does good compact digital p/s.

btgc - I will print at most 5x7" from these of ISO 6400. ISO 400 and 800 can be bigger print size. I like the camera.
Barrett - I agree, realy good Casio compact cameras
