New page on HELIAR Lenses ( the antique ones, not Cosinas :> )

Sorry to double post, but the Heliar was once part of the Holy Trinity of triplets.

Along with the Cooke-Triplet and the Tessars, this trio were a perfect fit when mounted in leaf-shutters lens for 6x9 folders or better yet on a large format lens board. Yes, the Ektar of Medalist fame is an outstanding Heliar design as well.

Sorry for another double post, but I'm fairly curious:

Dan, I recently bought a 105mm f3.5 lens for my Mamiya TLR because it's reputed to be sharper than the 80mm f2.8. Even more recently, I've seen a couple of comments on the net claiming that it's a Heliar design, which would be cool if it's true. Have you seen anything confirming or refuting this?

Haven't used it enough, but like it enough that Heliar or not, I'll keep it. The Mamiya kit kills my GAS for anything else in medium format.

Thanks for the interesting post.

Thanks. I forgot to mention I've got a DS. I gather there's quite a difference between the older and newer 105 lenses. This is added incentive to get some shots to print and find out first hand what a Heliar type lens can produce.
