I have capitulated and acquired an R-D1s for digital capture needs (enroute as I write). I chose the R-D1s over the M8 because of too many documented problems with the M8. If I throw down large, the thing must work properly (PERIOD).

The R-D1s and my MP should fit nicely in my Domke F-803.

I think you'll like it. Other than the finicky RF, it ain't a bad camera at all, and digital RF is, I have to say, so nice.

With one kid in college and another going next year, there just ain't an M8 in my near future, but I'm not regretting that.

I do want to say that I am still very pleased with the images that the R-D1 and its SLR sort-of twin the D100 render. Yeah, I know, 6mp, old tech, yada yada. Very pleasing in any case.

I purchased a new one too, some days ago. I was thinking on substituing my 5D for a film MF one. I'm loving again film negs, but finally i went on the digital option and the RD1 was the closest thing to my also recent M6. As you say, they can live better together inside my, in this case, Mekko bag.
I don't discard in the future a mamiya 7 or, why not, a 6x6 Hassy.
Another reason that made me be sure of this decission, is the confidence and tranquility of not being alone with an "obsolete" camera. I can find here all the doubts, support and experience of many people that join the same camera.

I asked myself one question: Can I get a nice 11 x 14 with the R-D1s? And the answer is a resounding yes. Secondly, can it travel compactly with my Leica MP/M6 and not bring unwanted "photographer" attention, unlike my DSLR? Answer: yes.

I have not planned on selling gear at this time anyway. As you know, Leica shooters need two M's in case one needs a tune up or simply as backup. However I have learned never to say never (!), but I hope they stay a while. Thanks for asking.

Congrats on the purchase paul! I'm sure you'll enjoy it as I do with mine. Given the 1.5X factor, your 90mm might be a tad long and harder to focus with on the R-D1s though. And you might need a 135 finder to go with it too.

I plan to use it mostly with my 28mm/2.8 ASPH, which would make it an effective 42mm -- a really nice FL.. The 90mm would be used in conjunction with my MP/M6.

Paul -- the 35/1.4 is even sweeter on the R-D1. don't neglect to try it, even if it means having to shoot (gasp!) closer to 50mm. i can't quite define it, but it really is a special coupling.

(and, actually, the noise of the shutter makes me want to step back...) Cron during the day, Lux at night. sweet combo!
 
Lately the R-D1 is getting a workout, while the film bodies are feeling neglected. Might have something to do with me not wanting to add to the backlog of developing/scanning - haven't had enough time to keep up recently.

The R-D1 can be a workhorse. I shot some 300+ frames this past weekend at a wedding, using the 75mm Summilux and a 50/1.4 Nikkor. Editing and burning CDs for the participants today.

DAMN THE RD1!
...it has, thus far, been responsible for me selling a 1D, 20D, 5D, and a lot of heavy, slow lenses...
