Rockwell Again!

I'm starting to think he does this on purpose because he knows we'll talk about him here and it will generate hits to his site. We should start ignoring him.

Or he's the quintessential amateur photographer with a prejudice against Leica. For example: Leicas aren't for people who work.

Gets off on a great start:

The Leica Minilux Zoom is a very basic point-and-shoot for rich people

I wonder what he'd write if somebody removed the word "Ricoh" from the digital GRD, and put a red dot on it. He'd probably call it a basic point-and-shoot for multimillionaire people.

Well... in regard to the Minlux, as a new camera, wasn't he right? It had a nice lens, but that was about it.

Agreed, it's not a great camera. So why does he take the time to write a whole page on how crappy he thinks it is?
Too much time on his hands!

I wouldn't be surprised if he made a review of pinhole cameras and declare that they're faulty for lacking a lens, autofocus, and a preview screen. The Nikon D3 would be, on the other hand, --along with the F6-- Zeus's gift to photographers. :)

Nay......

We should do the reverse - continually hit his site so that page downloads etc. go over his monthly max thereby incurring a charge from his hosting company :D

Our old buddy has gone to gargantuan efforts to trash the Leica Minilux Zoom, and Leica users in general:

But obvioulsy YOU chose to post this here with a call for us to ignore him. Isn't that a bit of a contradiction? Now, off to check the link. ;)

(Please note the above message includes sarcasm...)

I wonder why KR fell into minilux reminiscences in the middle of 2008...A kind of graphomania? Or he became older and feeling a kind of film nostalgie?

The name of the Web content game is "fresh material". Sometimes it's hard to go deep and substantive so you go shallow and flashy instead. But it's still fresh content.

Ken R

This is a quote from Ken on his Zoom Minilux review
Please forgive my cranky attitude throughout this review, but neither this Leica, the Nikon 35Ti or Konica Hexar, to which I'll often refer in this review, do everything I want for serious photography.

It's an opinion.

Ken is an enthusiastic guy who set up a website early on. Due to that he gets a lot of hits. His comments about Leica are not unique to him. Just go on a digital SLR forum. The Philidelphia Leica UG has a satire on Leica cameras. Those comments are everywhere. To the point, none of us needs a licence to write, nor does Ken.

He's put up some handy reviews for MOR photography and he's helped people by doing this. I've corresponded with him and he's just a guy who likes photography; sometimes he's serious sometimes he's not. Similar to RFF? I think so.

If each of us put up a webpage like his, I know there would be a large number of people who would trash our work and observations. I don't think Ken needs the hits from RFF, he's already getting plenty.

Ok, guys, I also believe that it is a bit strange to start a review of such a product in 2008. However, I never enjoyed these cameras anyway and his comments, while they seem a bit sarcastic, is not completely off the mark. All exaggerations put aside, I would not think about using a Minilux myself.

Usually I pay him no mind and take his "information" for what it's worth. As an example I've mentioned before in other threads I agree with his views about computers, software, monitor calibration, printing etc. almost 100%. He is very knowledgeable in these areas and his views are often proven facts.
However, his ignorant bashing of Leica users is more than an opinion. It's silly and rude. If a statement like this: "Leicas aren't for people who work. This Leica is for people rich enough to hire photographers and buy fine art, not for photographers themselves" is meant to be humorous, he should at least use emoticons! :p
Or at least back up his statements by proving he has tried Leicas and can speak from experience.
Or maybe he just shares a sense of humor with the likes of sitemistic et al. and I'm not getting it.
