I have no idea about the other two that looks more like P&S to me, but saying that the hexar is not enough for "serious photography" only points that the guy have absolutely no idea what serious photography can be.
His type of shooting is not fitted to the Hexar, good. But the hexar is a fantastic, mean, sharp tool adapted to the most serious photography in certain conditions. Its field of application is narrow but what it does, no other that I know does it better or in the same compact package.
IMHO, generalizing his opinion just like if it was god's word only shows a narrow point of view and detracts from the guy's reviews.
And no, I won't follow the link...:D

It's an opinion.

Ken is an enthusiastic guy who set up a website early on. Due to that he gets a lot of hits. His comments about Leica are not unique to him. Just go on a digital SLR forum. The Philidelphia Leica UG has a satire on Leica cameras. Those comments are everywhere. To the point, none of us needs a licence to write, nor does Ken.

He's put up some handy reviews for MOR photography and he's helped people by doing this. I've corresponded with him and he's just a guy who likes photography; sometimes he's serious sometimes he's not. Similar to RFF? I think so.

If each of us put up a webpage like his, I know there would be a large number of people who would trash our work and observations. I don't think Ken needs the hits from RFF, he's already getting plenty.

I wish Ken would just speak his mind and not worry about upsetting people. Oh, he already does that! In a camera world full of people w/ no sense of humor, I find Ken's attitude refreshing. I may even paypal him a quarter.

Al is definitely onto something too.

If you want to know why he does, what he does, so bad, perhaps someone should invite him to the forum and engaged in a healthy discussion.

Just an idea.

I think "serious" photography means "big heavy autofocus zoom lens attached to big heavy black noisy camera" photography :rolleyes:
 
The guy seemingly has more on the ball than most of his "critics".

This knock the Rock BS started on DPR to my knowledge, and I view those threads, and their pile it on participants, in much the same way. Small minded...
 
I like Ken! He's funny, he's topical and he knows how to get attention. I can't see sending him any donations for a WEB 1.0 site like his though.
 
You can't be serious thinking he insults Leicas and Leica owners to get attention and thus more hits ... that's lke insulting high altitude balloonists or people who think the Argus is the finest rangefinder ever made.

If he wants real attention he should try insulting Nikon or Canon owners where there actually is a substantial population base! :p
 
I think he is doing his review of old gear these day as a lot of people has handed in old stuff (Nikon lens) for him to do a review. I am not sure is but may be in his "retirement ranch" .

But while I understand a bit why someone is very defensive about something one like (like Leica M3). But why so defensive about Leica P&S. I have heard that the non-zoom P&S got a very good lens. But is this zoom one that good. Anyway, whilst Leica has a lot of products like R and P&S, I think only if he starts to challenge not the style but how rubbish Leica range finder actually is. That mean business here. Burn him may you all start to. (I will join when I got the $ to buy one Leica to join the membership. Having 4 Leica filters at only US$70 each probably does not count.) But trashing Leica minizoom. Come on. Can that P&S can be classified as even a range finder?
