First B/W Photos with R-D1s

You don't need to shoot Raw + Jpeg to see B&W on screen. Just set the camera to monochrome and quality to Raw. You then get B&W on the screen and if you use the Epson converter you get B&W on your monitor - that is a complete B&W workflow, but, with the option of colour should you want it.

sweet! i didn't know that... thank you!

i've shot RAW only when in a pinch for space, but obviously never noticed :D still, i'm on a mac and prefer to go through the card in quick look to decide what i'll process and can't see the RAW files as anything but small... (and, much as i like Epson's monochrome, i always prefer to do b/w conversions myself. i did know you could change that in RAW.)

..the camera takes it in it's stride, 1600jpeg .........prefer800 though

but see, i love the texture you got! which would not have been the same at 800...

regardless, it's wonderful that you don't really have to shy away from high ISO on this cam (especially in b/w) even if many prefer to limit it to 800.

this i mistakenly shot at 1600 (still getting used it  ) but that doesn't mean i have to toss it. i just can't quite figure how to process it as it's not quite right...

thank you, sweet Helen!

and, deppwhite, my apologies for completely hijacking your thread. i would love to see more with the SA, especially in b/w as it's there i think it shines.

Epson RAW, then pulled into Photoshop for a little tweaking and toning... it is *very* clean for 1600, but maybe that's because i should have been shooting 400 max :D

Cam, no problem. Discussions are good. I'm still a newbie and would love to learn more.

I'm posting my other SA21/3.4 shots in another thread. They are color ones though. I'll post new shots when I got time to take them.
