I wonder which factors mostly affect the number of views of certain photos that are posted in the RFF Galleries.
What do you think is the main factor for having high number of views for one photo while having a low number of views for another photo?

Beautiful Blonde with big breast and nice butt...cha-ching!!!!
Once that's been looked at then we're off to the other artsy stuff...

There are two options missing:
Buddy System.
Agrees with their aesthetic.
Many people only tend to explore buddies' photos more than not, regardless of quality or lackthereof.
Also, if the content or aesthetics agree or don't threaten the viewer, they will more likely than not view it.

Other factors beyond the appeal of the thumbnail IMO are the presence of comments, and recognition that this member often has good photos.

I've seen some users with really awful photos having views in the triple digits, and other users with really great photos with double or single-digit views.
I also concur with what was stated above: if it's a girl, the tighter (or fewer) the clothes, the higher the view count.

show a picture of a hot chick and the numbers will be ten times some artistic street photo --- tits trump hcb any day...
this is statistically proven by my own gallery
You got that right. The pic with the most hits on my gallery (two gals walking down the street) is one that I personally consider to be only "OK." Other photos, that I'm much more proud of, barely seem to be noticed.

Well, the day we see pictures of dogs getting more views, I'll definitely start to worry.
More seriously, the title of the picture as an impact on the pictures I view. Many times the thumbnail doesn't allow you to get an idea of what is shot so a good title can be the trigger.
I also tend to look more at pictures of members that make an effort in putting details on what camera and lens that were used to take the picture.
Finally, some members have a style I don't personnally like. The pictures are many times technically irreprochable, but well, the world is made of many colors, can't like everything.

I started thinking about "views" after creating a "top 10" gallery with twelve images. It interested me to see which type of image was viewed consistently more often in my reduced gallery. The bikini clad girls always ranked high, but they are not the top image based on number of views.
What people look at [a lot] in RFF may not transfer to high number of views at PN and vice versa too. I am unsure what is driving the number of views. At PN, there is definitely a bias towards nudes [and not towards dogs!].
I do not ignore the "views" at RFF. Quite often, they reveal to me aspects of some images that I did not pay attention to myself. They are certainly not all the time "correct", whatever correctness implies here.

I often make my way to the gallery via someone's signature line after reading a post of theirs in the forum. It would seem, then, that frequent posters get a lot of my own views.
Photos with strong graphical elements will get more hits from the thumbnail than one that is more subtle, I believe. Overall tones deter or attract me as well.. if I can see that the tones are all out of whack from the thumb, I probably won't explore further. That being said, I know mine are off since I suck at getting them right for scans! Viva la wet prints!

For me the thumbnail has to be strong - a bit of a challenge for any photo, which means I am probably missing some good stuff. There is also the question of time of day. Posting in the evening on the East Coast means you are a little late for Europe and a little early for the West Coast.

Well, I don't have any "hot babes" of either gender in my gallery, but I have various shots, some with tens of views over time and some with hundreds. For the life of me I can't figure out why some get hit on, others get ignored. I can only guess that it's similar to what I do when I peruse the gallery. I'll click on an image if the thumbnail shows something interesting to me.
One factor I've noticed, but does not always hold, is that photos with comments seem to get more views. I think it may be that those with comments are displayed first, thus being more obvious and easier to get to.

So, it's not about the photography, it's about the subject.

I have one photo that has been viewed many times. It intrigues me to know why. It does not have any scantly clothed woman in it. There is a photo with two bikini women. It has been viewed a lot, but less often than my Avatar image.
I have been monitoring the "top 12" photos in my gallery to see the view count for which type of image. At first, the bikini image took off as the top viewed, but then things stabilized, and other images caught up with it.
Food for thought.
