Battery for the MP...

YES!.. I have red the instructions, and have seen the list of good battery workers in it...
Also I searched here, and didn't find nothing familiar.


So, right now I'm in the place where I couldn't find nothing like the matching lis in the instruction, so I bought alkaline ENERGIZER LR44(A76) 1,5V, but haven't use it yet.

Can I use it with not feeling that I don't hurt my precious 😉 ?..

And also, I will be pleased with some recomendations of what type of battery you use. What in cold temperatures, what in hot?..

Yes, you can use these batteries. In fact, these are the type I buy when I travel, because the 3 V that my M6TTL takes aren't as easily available abroad. In short, nothing will happen.

As for cold temps... remember that in case of battery death, you still can use the camera, so, carry a meter with. Preferably a selenium meter (needs no batteries), or get used to the sunny-16 rule.

Here is what I found out. In this thread someone said that they had problems using this type of batteries on their Leica MP... That's why, I NEED to be SURE with it...

A pair of A76's will work fine.

I use the 3-volt liths, because they tend to work better in cold weather, there's only one thing to go wrong instead of two, and they have a longer shelf life---you can carry a spare forever, and it will work when you put it in. Lithiums have a steeper drop-off in performance, however. Where an alkaline or silver oxide batt will show some signs that it is running out of juice (flickering meter display in a MP), the liths just drop dead without warning. Which is why you should always carry a spare. They always eat the rug when you're miles from a store.

Nugard, the MP is NOT a fine electronic instrument, subject to all the variables of voltage and what not. The only thing the battery feeds is the meter, and to do that it needs 3 volts. Just make sure to get the N 1/3 DL batteries (3 volts) or two of the A76, keep the camera with the shutter speed indicator on OFF or B, and that's all. Don't fret over the battery life because chances are any problem comes from a low or defective battery.

My first M6TTL (which I bought used) sucked dry its first battery within a month. I was slightly alarmed and then made it a habit to turn it off and store it carefully, switched to OFF. Batteries now last forever...

Lithium 3-volt cells are best suitable!

Varta CR 1/3N
Philips CR 1/3N
Ucar 2 L 76

I use them on my automatic camera Leica RE; I have never problems with it!

Here in the US the Sanyo CR-1/3N are sold in retail stores everywhere (repackaged and expensive) but you can also get them online much cheaper. They are good, I've used them for a long time in M6, M7 and MP. The longest lasting may be the Varta CR 1/3N which may be more available in Ukraine since Varta is a German company (although the batteries are made in Japan). You can buy those online too.

Give Leica a call, or email to get an answer from the source. I've found them to be very helpful every time. If you list available batteries in your area they will let you know for sure.

OK, guys...

I've found VARTA alkaline ones (which are in the list of Leica MP instruction), and also I've bought lithium Varta CR 1/3N, and gonna make experiment and watch what batteries will last longer...

The Energizer I gave up back to place where I boght it (luckely I saved the bill)...

But what can you say about temps variation/battery lasting?.. What brand and type of batteris will be better?..

Lithium will last longer but the voltage falls off very rapidly, and they seem more affected in cold than alkaline or silver oxide. Varta seems to be the best brand, as I said above I've been using Sanyo and have been happy but I will try Varta next.

Today I load Varta V76PX... Right now everything seems okey...
