My only gripe about the new 28/2 Ultron

I am troubled by the almost useless lens hood: not deep enough to protect against flare - more so when a filter is attached.
It baffles me as to why design such a beautiful lens and then impair its resolution with a poorly designed hood; just compare it to the 28 Summicron equivalent.
(please no comments as to the expense of the Leitz version: If Cosina was able to make beautiful lens for a 5th of Leit'z price, they could certainly do likewise with the hood).

If enough of us feel likewise, perhaps somebody could forward this comments to Mr. Kobayashi. I, for one, would be willing to shell out the extra bucks for a better alternative.

I have run close to 75 rolls through the 28f2.0 Ultron and so far I haven't seen any flare that can be blamed on the hood. I like the small hood, it works very well, it does not protrude into the finder and if you use a thin rim 46mm filter, it allows it to be threaded in without having to remove the hood!
I have never believed in hoods as "fashion statements" - they are there to protect the front element and to block unwanted stray light.
I agree with the snap clip front caps. I never use them, primarily because they fly off and roll under furniture and, unless Mr B - the cat, manages to fish it out, there it remains. I will dig through my box of assorted caps etc and see if I can find a simple push on cap that will go on the hood for those times when I carry the lens loose in a pocket or rattling around in the camera bag.

I think those little hoods cosina does are mainly to protect the front element. I have no experience with the 28/2, but when I'm using my 25/4 I take that little hood off.

That little hood stops flare in only about the top 10th of the frame, then there's a shardp line across the top of my photo where flare has come in lower than that. If I'm going to have flare, I'd rather have even flare.

Tom, i hope to soon see one of Mr Kobayashi's accessory LH "fashion statements" designed for this particular lens.

cosina is very good making camera accessories, like those nice viewfinder and hood, maybe they should make a ceremonial hood for the ultron 28?

The only thing I saw that I liked better on the F1.9 was the focusing collar, the f2.0 has a nub instead I like that but a grip collar along with a nub would be better.

Yeah, I am not so keen on tabs, yet so far that's what all the M lenses I own have. The ZI 28 has a ribbed collar that also has a tab.... the best of both worlds. I wish cosina did this too.
