Alright you gurus of inifinite wisdom.... Does anyone know what the last recorded Nikon M serial number is? Did it go straight to 6093999 or was it more around 6093500 or less?

I'm trying to date where mine falls in the production line...

Robert Rotoloni's latest book says the latest known camera with an "M" serial number is M6094025 and the earliest known "S" is 6094147.

However unlike Europe and the US, in Japan any body with an "M" serial number that has flash synch terminals is considered an "S", rather than an "M".

Must be a typo, the last Nikon M synch reported is M6094125

Vickko showed us M60940xx a while ago:

The Nikon M, including the synchronized version, was produced between August 1949 to January 1951

Very strange lens indeed. Most of the 910xxxx series I have seen are engraved Nippon Kogaku Tokyo. I've only seen one lens that wasn't.
Yours' is the second one...

It sure looks like the actual lens element part was installed in a later barrel!!
Notice how the interior ID ring's white engraving color has a yellow hue to it compare to white on the outer ring.
Is is engraved Made in Japan? Or Made in Occupied Japan?
The engraving would be on the back of the lens, so the lens has to be removed from the camera.

I won't be able to know if this lens was bought originally w/ the body. Which do you think came out early? The one w/ Tokyo or the one w/ Japan engraving?

I took out the lens. I saw no engraving on it.

I was almost duped into selling this camera by a friend. He offered me a $100 outright when he saw it. When I refused he upped his offer to $500. That made me curious of the offer. So, I tried to research in the internet. That's how I found that this is a rare vintage Nikon camera.

Welcome Hombrebueno. I saw your ad here, and on ebay. One tip I might suggest for high end items is good photographs of the item. Good luck with the sale,
Mike

I'm on my way there. I'm just a newbie on photography and I don't have sophisticated shooting equipment yet except for my point and shoot Canon digital camera.

Thanks, Mike.

The lenses marked Nippon Kogaku Tokyo came out first.

There must be engraving on the back of the lens, you have to examine it carefully to find it.

I do have some pictures of the engraving, I will post them later.

As you see, the lens is marked Tokyo and only stops down to f16

Here is the engraving on the back:

3.5cm lens

no collector value left in the lens, glass looks pretty bad also. probably worth about $50, in it's condition, makes me wonder about the inside of the M, are the view finders clean when looking threw them from the front or can you see fungus growth??
