Leica M3 price?

i'll criticize myself...
yes, there are M3s that have sold on ebay for $300, but they are project cameras, not working cameras. reasonably clean and working M3s seem to start at around $500 and go up from there.

Bob,

E-bay isn´t the only game in town, and I never paid more than $300 for a Leica M3DS.

Patience is a virtue! LOL

Look at those M5 prices!

Let's say that I saw a M5 for significantly less on a fair two weeks ago. Covering was ugly but that's not too hard to fix. RF & mechanics appeared ok, no idea about the meter.

look, i think the above link is fairly accurate on the US$ prices for leica cameras. they are even more expensive here in australia. occasionally, you get lucky...

i've been looking for a user condition m3 or m4 in the last 16 months and keep reading these stories of garage sale finds of super rare minty leicas in the US and old widows trading in their husbands camera gear in eastern europe, etc.
just when i thought i 'd give up and pay what everyone is paying, a deal came in ebay. i was a bit reluctant since the seller has only 1 positive feedback, but he included his phone number and i had lots of questions for him. happy with his honest answers and
with two clicks of the mouse and my fingers crossed, the DS m3 (with 3 lenses, caps, external 35mm finder) was in my posession in 3 days for only AU$700. i was ecstatic, working smoothly with excellent lenses. it seems as though it hasn't missed a beat. i will probably get it serviced after a burn a hundred rolls or so but so far so good. best of luck with your hunt...

The trouble with an M3 with a faint finder for $300.00 is that it may respond to having the prism cleaned or it may need resilvering. There's no rangefinder parts for these things around any more and to my knowledge the only place in the world that resilvers the finder prisms charges close to $400.00 ... or that was the case when I enquired a year or so ago. Not to mention the three month wait!
