Just thought I'd drop a line and say how impressed I am with Leica's latest 28mm offering. I've owned it for over a year but haven't really given it a great try on film, just the M8. I'm more of a 35/50mm guy, I suppose.
Anyway, I'm really impressed with how well it resolves wide open and the punchy nature of colour in the shots I take with it. I've never used the older versions of the ZM equivalent, but I love its small size and design. The only problem for me is it's f2.8. I'm used to at least f2 and usually f1.4 but think this lens will work best for me outdoors, on the street.
Now, perhaps Leica will announce a 28mm f1.4 at Photokina? Then we'll be talking!

I used the 28mm IV for a few years and thought it was great. I have the 28 ASPH but have not really given it the test because the 35 'Lux ASPH generally stays bolted on. Most of all, I like the 28mm/2.8 ASPH small form factor.
I am wondering about its boke and will probably run a roll to check this out. The boke in JJK pix above looks pretty good to my eye.

I find its OOF areas quite pleasing. It's no less attractive than my 50mm Summicron, it seems. I'd love to have a few days with the 28mm Summicron to see how much the size takes away from the experience for me during everyday use. F2 is a massive plus for me but 28mm is generally my outdoor street lens of choice these days.
