I know RF's are not meant to shoot bugs.
I just want, from time to time to go under 0.7m.

What would be my best option IYO:

1- DR summicron with eyes
Pros: ease of use (no need to unmount the lens to put the eyes on - AFAIK), maybe slightly better lens?

2- coll cron with SOMKY
Pros: weight, size, price

What argument did I miss?
What would you do and why?

THANKS!🙂

Viso III + OTZFO (?) + 65 Elmar.

16526H (BOOWU-M?) + 50/2 Summicron -- a much underrated combination.

90/4 Makro-Elmar

75/2 Summicron

-- in that order. And I've tried all of them.

Cheers,

R.

I think, after having used the 75mm, I'm going to agree with Roland. I haven't used Roger's selections (save for the 75mm) so I can't comment on those but definitely you can get "close" with the 75mm.

Cheers,
Dave

Use a longer lens. Like a 90mm at 0.9m or a 75mm at 0.7m.

Cheers,

Roland.

Roland, thanks for answering!
I just checked. Indeed the 90mm give a bit closer at 0.9 than the 50 at 0.7.
the 75, well, that seems a good solution. Not quite in the weight or price range of an accessory. Also, my M2 and M3 will have some king of a prob to handle the FL....

Dear Roger,

The visoflex seems quite an operation. Not the kind of things i'll have in my bag "just in case"
the 16526H (BOOWY?)
what is a 16526H (BOOWY?) ???😕

I'll consider the option of the makro-Elmar

Thanks again!

Dear Michael,

The Viso is less bulk and grief than you might expect -- but the III is MUCH easier to use.

Google BOOWU or BOOWU-M (typographical error already corrected) and you will find what appears to be a real Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg device -- aka 'spider legs' -- that works astonishingly well. The great advantage of BOOWU for bugs is that you don't need a viewfinder: just use the 'frame' provided by the legs. It's really remarkably easy for bugs.

I decided not to get a Makro-Elmar because the Viso goes down to 1:1 and besides, I already have the Viso/65 combo and a 75/2 and a 16 5256 H.

Cheers,

R.

although the summicron DR is very sharp and it's not that much of a hassle with the goggles, i want to sell it if you are interested 🙂

I use a +1.5 diopter auxiliary close-up lens, which I have carefully calibrated to determine the plane of focus. I also have a +5 close-up lens. The +1.5 focusses at 18 inches from the lens, and the +5 at 8.6 inches.

I have the 90mm macro elmar and I really like it. Without its goggles, the 90mm macro elmar captures the same image field as the 50mm DR Summicron WITH its goggles. I like having the extra distance of the 90mm, and the lens is really sharp with very nice out-of-focus rendition. It is expensive, but worth it to me. I have the googles for it (they allow up to 1:3 reproduction on film) but I haven't used them much yet. If I want to do something that close I think of using a tripod, and if I think of using a tripod then I think of using a different camera system. Still, when I'm traveling I always take the 90mm macro elmar.

I think the answer today is just the same as it was in the 1970s, when my dad looked at a Visoflex, weighed up the pros and cons… and bought a Pentax SP1000.
In recent years I have been tempted to buy a Viso to put on my M6. I've tried the Leitz extension tube/copy legs set-up, but it really is a dog's dinner next to an SLR…
