There's the Olympic/Millenium version that is said to be a double gauss formula.

That is very interesting. My Nikkor 1.4 is sooo very different in rendition and signature than my Canon 1.4 that I thought the Nikkor was Double Gauss. Thanks for the replies.

The Canon 1.4 is double Gauss, a very rare one at that since it has only 6 elements like the original Xenon design.
The Nikon is Sonnar based. I use both, Tony, and they are very different.

Ok, I got it. I knew they were very dissimilar in how they render but I had them backward as to origin, thanks very much. I like the Nikkor but I think I like the Canon better.
